To go for a long weekend to New York and leave the children

Yesterday my mum offered to pay for me to go with her to New York in November, it would be a long weekend, prob from Friday to Monday or Tuesday. Dc's will b 5 and 19 months when I go, they would be with their dad, my dh, who is fine with it. I've never been away from them before but I'd really like to go. So aibu to go to another country leaving my dc's here or should I get a grip? I'd just like some different perspectives please because the more I think about it the more likely I am to say no.

We are going at the beginning of June sans kids!!

My parents are coming to stay at our house to look after them.

Yes go!
I went when dd was 8 months old, and didn't even phone home. What was the point?
If something had happened, I couldn't do anything about it.

It sounds wonderful. Such a lovely thing to do with your mum. Definitely go!

Totally go and think of all the things you'll be NOT doing due to children and just pile em all up into this trip ;-) Go!

Another go from me.

I did it with my mum and best friend, leaving the kids with their dad. They were fine, I had a BLAST. Would do it again tomorrow.

I thought I would miss them terribly as I had never left them for that amount of time before. But you will be so busy/drunk/taking in the fantastic buzz and excitement that you won't think of them as much as you think. Blush

Not only do I think you should go, you've inspired me to think of doing the same for a big birthday later in the year! Have a great time

YABU

For bloody asking! Get thee gone, I'm jealous, I LOVED NYC.

I go away without the children not often, but regularly. I thought I'd miss them, I love them so, so much. But I don't miss them AT ALL. And I still love them so, so much.
I suppose I'm saying, if you feel guilty and miss them , that's fine. But you might have a nicer time if you let yourself not feel guilty :)

SmellsLikeTeenStrop · 26/04/2012 19:31

I've been away without my DCs and DH. Yes I missed them but at the same time it was nice to have that time away just to do the things I wanted to do.

It's only a long weekend, it's not like you'd be going for a fortnight or even a week.

Go

And don't ruin it with even a flicker of guilt
