I love that the village of Milton Keynes is in Milton Keynes

I hate that I can remember life before Milton Keynes

nemmynem · 24/04/2012 21:17

ooh i also used to live in MK and think MK is better!

Blatherskite · 24/04/2012 21:24

I do live in Milton Keynes and think Milton Keynes is better Grin

DH wanted to move to Northampton a few years ago because the housing was cheaper. I didn't think it was worth it.

It is the land time forgot. Which is in parts both frustrating and delightful.

myBOYSareBONKERS · 24/04/2012 21:42

We moved to Northampton 10 years ago and so far have been very happy. Our children are in good schools and the local secondary schools are improving. Weston Favell Shopping Centre is very handy - although the clientèle is very "Jeremy Kile". I don't like the town centre so I always go to MK.

We have made some really good friends here - and that is more important to me then now "Happening" the place is

ilikecandyandrunning · 25/04/2012 06:32

It is ok here, we definitely need more individual little shops etc though - it had a fair few when I moved here but they are all closing down :(

MardyArsedMidlander · 25/04/2012 07:46

My cousin owns Buddy's Diner. CLAIM TO FAME Grin

I live in a beautiful two bedroom house on a ancient rural estate the rent is ridiculously cheap and the back garden is like a field, I looked into moving to Brighton (more culturally rich) in order to do this I would have to (for what I pay here) live in a bedsit and get rid of my car as car parking's too expensive.
I love Northamptonshire it's truly stunning and all my friends live here too.

Blatherskite · 25/04/2012 08:20

There was a Northants meet up? I went all the way to bloody London! Twice!!

We'll have it at Buddy's. Mardy can get us a discount Wink

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 25/04/2012 08:46

Yeah, who wants to organise the meet up?

BoffinMum · 25/04/2012 09:32

I might be tempted to come along as I have never heard of this diner and I like a challenge! Grin

KatAndKit · 25/04/2012 09:52

Oooh I'd love a Northants meet up at Buddy's! It's great there, we often go before watching shows at the theatre. The thought of Buddy's has made me quite hungry now!

ChairOfTheBored · 25/04/2012 09:59

It's quite close to Leicestershire...Wink

jandymaccomesback · 25/04/2012 10:05

stoatie I like Hull.

Fireandashes · 25/04/2012 10:06

Buddy's was the first place I ever ate at (at which I ever ate?) in Northamptonshire.

I've only been into Northampton itself to go to the theatre to see stand-up comedians (oh, and to do a speed awareness course Blush) but it's not the worst place in the world.

If the towns weren't a bit crap and the housing therefore cheaper, DH and I wouldn't have been able to afford to relocate from the NE when I was offered my dream job in the county two years ago, so I take a pragmatic view.

RabbitsMakeBrownEggs · 25/04/2012 10:07

How accessible is it by public transport? My mobility is limited, as are funds, but I'd be up for a meet.

jandymaccomesback · 25/04/2012 10:14

We moved to Northamptonshire over 30 years ago. We were going to stay about five years, but we lost the will to -live- leave.
We like the county because no-one knows we are here and we like it that way.
Much of what has been said is true, especially about how rude people are about the next village. It runs along from one to another until you get to "And as for Woodford..." (which is actually quite a pretty place so no idea what that is about).
The countryside is beautiful. People are a lot more friendly than where we lived in the South East. Education is OK. You do need a car though as public transport is not much good.
I was born in a large town near London and would never, ever swap.

Fimbo · 25/04/2012 10:22

Only ever been to Brixworth as my sil used to live there, there was a country park close to her house if I remember, which was good, must google the name.

helopoly · 25/04/2012 11:11

I grew up in Rothwell and it always seemed to have a big rivalry with Desborough, which is the next town along. I will always have a soft spot for the place and it does have a nice little town centre.
If somebody had told me I would end up living in Corby I would have been worried, however it is a great place with lots of woods and parks to explore on the outskirts and the centre is ever improving. I might change my mind next week though depending on what primary place we get offered.
Northampton town centre was summed up for me when a woman pulled down her pants and went to the toilet in the middle of the street - disgusting!
Wellingborough is the worst. What do people do in Wellingborough?

UnChartered · 25/04/2012 11:21

I'd be up for a Northants meet - and don't mind organising either.

Shall we start by PMing me to register your interest?
