Nene, same as Deene prepares for hanging, drawing and quartering

grimbletart · 24/04/2012 18:36

May I offer this in support of my view that the pronunciation changes from NENN to NEEN as you get to Peterborough (loads AK47 an takes cover behind nearest large object) Grin

UnChartered · 24/04/2012 18:45

is that a typo for the A47, grimble Grin

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 24/04/2012 18:54

its Nenn as in Ten.

UnChartered · 24/04/2012 18:55

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 24/04/2012 18:56

UnChartered · 24/04/2012 18:58

ooohhh, it's week good over in Thraaaapston though

TodaysAGoodDay · 24/04/2012 19:03

Weston Favell people, do you remember about 15 yrs ago a gun siege in the houses by the church in the old WF village? My neighbour, in the terraced house next to ours. A complete nutter who needs locking up. He's the reason we moved.

Thinking about it, I did like the Bold Dragoon. Hmm

RustyKuntz · 24/04/2012 19:06

HotPink No, I'm 'Oop Norf' - most of my family have moved up here now, but still have a cousin and her family in Northampton. Not been for a few years though.

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 24/04/2012 19:14

Thought you'd said you were in the north Sad oh well back to stalking Bernie Ecclestone then.

tearoomtrash · 24/04/2012 19:18

I teach in Corby, and have a real soft spot the place! Great kids & parents! It's reputation is totally undeserved these days. Corby town is perfect for all the shops you'd want, but without the crowds of people you get in Leicester.
I grew up in Northampton, but tend to avoid having to go there now - it's just a typical small town with not too much to distinguish it from any other. But I have to say there are some beautiful villages - Rockingham is a particular favourite of mine - so pretty and quaint - and the castle offers some fab open air theatre in the summer.
I think it's pretty much agreed that the countryside and villages of the county are beaut, but the town is fairly disappointing...

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 24/04/2012 19:22

I almost hate to admit it, but I loved Weston Favell shopping centre. It was just around the corner from where I worked and I used to go and spend too much money there every lunchtime. Not Bren for years though.

winemakesmeclever · 24/04/2012 19:33

Buddies Diner for a big sunday morning breakfast, and we are blessed with a lot of good safe cycle paths. Northampton isn't that bad really :)

ditavonteesed · 24/04/2012 19:58

I had forgotten about buddies diner, yum.

floweryblue · 24/04/2012 20:14

Nothing drawing me back to Northampton now that I have persuaded DP that the seaside is better. But, I didn't hate living there, I thought it was a nice place with loads of lovely parks and interesting shops.

knowitallstrikesagain · 24/04/2012 20:15

It's not Hull.

stoatie · 24/04/2012 20:24

It's not Hull.

Very true - its not that bad - bit bland maybe - I was miserable cos I hated the course I was studying, not very fond of the people I shared with and the house we lived in was cold and damp. In fact it had three temperatures, cold, very cold and freezing - first winter I had to ask my mum for bed socks and knitted bed jacket which I wore over my fleecy pjs whilst trying to study in bed for warmth.

Ironically when the others saw my woolly garments (I was expecting snorts of hilarity) they all wanted them - so much so that the women at mum's church had to go into knitting overdrive to keep up with demand Grin

HotPink - where does Bernie live then? May consider trip into town tomorrow...

BoffinMum · 24/04/2012 20:55

The little museum in Kettering is terrific, and has a lot of school holidays things going on usually, such as brass rubbing and the like.

Pilchardnpoppy · 24/04/2012 20:55

Stoatie - we live on a street where there was a murder - it ended up being on ITVs Neighbours from Hell. Without giving too much away, is it the street with tall houses on one side? They have cleaned up prostitution loads I think. We used to live in semiong and would see them regularly, but not anymore.

UnChartered · 24/04/2012 20:59

Grin brass rubbing Grin

i do love this county, it's so...quaint!

BoffinMum · 24/04/2012 20:59

Now you're talking, Pilchard. It's practically like the TV show Whitechapel.

Blatherskite · 24/04/2012 21:05
