I am genuinely stuck here between overstepping the mark or being helpful.

DS has wanted a set of Dr Dre Beats headphones for months, its his 13th birthday tomorrow and he's saved a bit himself and also worked out that if he uses all of his birthday money then he can afford this item ( 130 quid Shock )
I don't agree with him spending this amount on a set of headphones but hey Ho...

Anyway, he found a pair on eBay, I was about to order them this morning, but decided to message the seller to check if they are the genuine brand ( normally they retail for a hundred quid more ) and it turns out they are replicas.

I think DS is being ridiculous to pay for these, but wibu to not 'let' him, or do I have to stand back and let him do what he wants with his own money?
Confused

OP, my husband said something about curry's having an online deal - 20%off all headphones - website is currently down but worth checking back soon?

No offence intended loopylou but this brand of headphones has become very popular with young people based mainly (but not entirely) on a celebrity endorsement. That makes them largely a fashion item and as you said youself, he was more interested in how his headphone look than how they sound (otherwise why would he have even considered getting fakes with no idea what they sound like, he wanted to be seen by his peers to have the "right" brand).

If that isn't a response to peer pressure I'm not sure what is!

Bose headphones are the best. My DS has just bought some and they are the dog's proverbials. Go to a Bose shop and try them.

ToadsPornFrogsPawn · 23/04/2012 17:47

Dr Dre is well cool innit!
Let him buy real Dr Dres, from a shop eg john lewis so you can rely on the receipt/guarantee if something goes wrong.
My boy has these, he wears them in Liverpool and on the train, never been mugged

Like OhDearNigel and possibly others have said - report to eBay, they take a dim view of fakes being sold - especially when the 'replica' item isn't being listed as such so buyers assume it is genuine.

I have the Bose in ear things for my iPod/iPad/phone. The sound quality is very good. I wouldnt have the over ear phones as they're clunky but that's not what your DS wants. No way would I ever contemplate fakes, especially on audio equipment where you certainly get what you pay for.

OP - someone on another thread has just pointed out that the currys web site is down and they are taking details with a promise of a discount voucher on Wednesday...

seeker · 24/04/2012 13:05

I saw some in TkMaxx this morning. I didn't check the details because I couldn't remember why I was interested, but it might be worth a look.
