to have declined a dietician untill my morning sickness eases a bit?

as a pg woman with a bigger bmi I have been referred to a dietician or I can be referred.

I asked the midwife would this require more appointments and she said yes, I aid to her that I would happily do it but not yet.

I'm suffering severely with morning sickness , 3-5 times a day and it impairs how long I can stand up for somedays I'm forced to crawl around.
and I'm purely relying on bands for relief. so attending more appointments may sometimes not be possible.
plus I'll just be regurgitating what I eat.

She was quite put out saying 'its irresponsible to wait' but I do really dont see another option as they wont prescribe me anything.

AIBU to decline this until my MS eases a bit??

I haven't said that though, there is a difference between ms and hg and their impact on maternal health. I have said the op should go back to her hps and talk about meds again if she wishes to.

I just think that because there are elevated risks due to maternal obesity that it remains a pressing issue.

'usually' reps stats in these cases and usually maternal obesity is a risk whilst ms isn't. Obviously we are all different and hopefully the op will feel better soon rather than getting worse like you did.

Sorry - I know I am ranting...I just got so fed up hearing other people tell me I wasn't ill when I knew I was and in fact actually was as the tests proved.

I too have advised the OP to get on the list for the dietician and see how things are when the time comes.

Yeah I do know...I was admitted too after a mw thought I was exaggerating... Ended one preg half a stone lighter than I started and I was well within bmi at start. Wasn't a fun one.

S'orrible stuff.

I have rang the MW and said I will take the referral,

I didnt mention the MS , couldnt walk again yesterday Hmm I think I know when I'm wasting my time.

I'll just have to play it by ear I think.

thanks for all the useful posts.

Hoebag Do keep in mind the option of going to out of hours...you get seen by a totally different lot of people (often more enlightened).

If you are throwing up enough then eventually you start to chuck up blood...this will definitely get you seen out of hours.

Hoebag, if you haven't already, please have a look at the hyperemesis thread on the pregnancy board for some support. I don't know what the "medical definition" of hyperemesis is but you are clearly suffering hugely and I agree with an earlier poster that it's not always how often you are throwing up (well, it is for the health of the baby, but you are important too!) but how sick you are feeling and how well you can function.

There are a number of different meds you can take safely throughout pregnancy. Again, the hyperemesis thread is filled with experts that can point you in the right direction. Fwiw, I tried prochlormazine but that didn't work and am now on cyclizine. More severe cases seem to respond better to Ondanseton (not sure of spellings!)?

In terms of the dietician, why not show that you are willing by accepting the referral - but obviously on the understanding that you may need to cancel appointments (or switch to telephone consultaton) if you are not physically able to attend.

I am so sorry that your sickness is being dismissed by some people on this thread. It was easily the worst time of my life when I was very bad at the beginning of this pregnancy and it made it worse if people weren't understanding. It can be lonely and depressing enough as it is [hugs and sympathy] xx

Its okay I'm used to it I was much more sick with dc1 , 5-6 times a day but I could function this time I'm sick less but more dehydrated.

so its 6 and 2 3's really.

I'll have a look thanks.
