AIBU or weird to wear a bra under my swimsuit?

tittytittyhanghang · 19/04/2012 16:40

If i buy a swimsuit for my size (to fit my huge ass and hips) then guaranteed they will be too big up top for my teeny boobs :( Buying a swimsuit by bra size doesn't fare well neither as it will fit up top and is usually 2 sizes too small around belly and ass. So AIBU to wear a padded bra under my swimsuit. Obviously it would be one that could not be visible strap wise etc. Or is this just weird? (PS. Bikinis and tankinis are out as my body is not fit for either of them).

do a trial in a shower see how it all looks wet but if it makes you feel more confident in swimsuit why not!!

Llareggub · 19/04/2012 16:41

Have you tried Bravissimo?

squoosh · 19/04/2012 16:41

If it's a one piece swimsuit and the bra can't be seen then YANBU.

I don't like one pieces cos my sizeable boobs never feel supported enough, hate the feeling of my poor boobs just hanging there.

TastesLikePanda · 19/04/2012 16:42

Could you wear a tankini top under your costume instead? Just thinking that the material might be more comfortable and less likely to bunch up possibly only thinking of own bunchy bras instead

aftereight · 19/04/2012 16:44

It does sound odd, but like a good solution. A well fitting underwired bikini top may be better though, as more suited to the water than a normal bra?

groovejet · 19/04/2012 16:45

Just get a padded underwired bikini top - most places sell the tops and bottoms seperate now a bit more comfortable than a soggy bra.

toofattorun · 19/04/2012 16:46

I agree with groovejet. Get a bikini top.

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 19/04/2012 16:50

You could always buy a bikini/tankini and wear a long t shirt over the top to cover up. Although I would check with your pool that this is ok with them as around here it seems to be fine sometimes but not other times, in the school holidays they had signs up saying no non swimwear in the pool but when I used to go to aqua natal they said it was fine to wear a bikini with a t shirt if we didn't have a maternity costume.

OneOf8 · 19/04/2012 16:53

Thought this was for the same issue as Squoosh - so was going to recomend a ShockAsorber who make sports bras, I have one of their swim suits, and is so much more comfortable than wearing a bikini under a swimsuit - a bra would be quite uncomfortable when wet, especially if you are doing real swimming, and not sitting by a pool on holiday Smile

spidermanspiderman · 19/04/2012 16:56

Debenhams have a fab range of swimwear buyable as seperates. They have gel padding and do not gape. Also next have a range called wow - which have dresses with built in padded bras as well as swimwear! I have problems as my goons have vanished completely since I stopped breast feeding dc2. Have told dh we have to either have another baby or I get a boon job - whichever he thinks he can afford!

spidermanspiderman · 19/04/2012 16:57

Bloody predictive text boobs not goons and boob job not boon Job.

JustHecate · 19/04/2012 16:59

I do. I also wear big pants underneath (the ones that cover the top of your thighs and look like shorts.

I became aware that when swimming, legs scissoring, the swimming costume can suffer a malfunction that can be somewhat alarming for someone swimming behind you.

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 19/04/2012 17:13

I hate swimming in pools infront of men with goggles for just that reason, hecate Blush

JustHecate · 19/04/2012 17:19

Yes.

Wear shorts.

This malfunction happens more often than most women realise. I promise you.

I have seen more fanny than a gynaecologist.

WhatTheCatDraggedIn · 19/04/2012 17:22

I buy all my swimsuits from the Speedo USA website - they have a much bigger selection than here.

Unfortunately they (well, the last time I checked) do not accept non-USA credit cards so I ask my sister (who lives there) to buy them for me and I reimburse her.

It's a bit of a faff but I swim a lot so go through 2 - 3 suits a year and I find Speedo the best at keeping my huge floppy norks contained

porcamiseria · 19/04/2012 17:24

YANBU, BUT THERE ARE many costumes for the large busted ladies

they do make you like a 60 year old matron though
just need a swimming cap with embossed flowers

so, maybe stick to bra idea

CelticPromise · 19/04/2012 17:27

Hmmm I've got the same issue as squoosh. I've got a few bikinis but I am about to start proper swimming so I need a sporty costume. I have a shock absorber tankini but it rides up and the fabric has gone all thin after not much wear. I want a leg suit with built in sports bra in a 34g but I fear it doesn't exist. OP you have given me the idea to wear an old sports bra with a leg suit instead, so thanks!

Agincourt · 19/04/2012 17:27

omg hecate :o

butyes, wear a bra under if you want and it looks fine. Who is to know?

pinktrees · 19/04/2012 17:30

You need to get something like this:

store.speedo.co.uk/p/swimsuits/womens-aquaflyer-muscleback/807893

It is a swimsuit designed for serious swimming as opposed to fashion. There is no detail to the piece that goes over your boobs, it is just material and I don't think the design is for someone with big boobs - swimmers don't usually have big boobs anyway.

I am a similar shape to you and I can't buy a "feminine" or fashionable swimsuit because my boobs will never fill the space. These speedo ones are perfect!

JustHecate · 19/04/2012 17:34

It's ok, agincourt. I can confidently tell all women that fannies come in all shapes and sizes and all are normal. Which is something useful.

every cloud has a, well, a moist and glistening lining.

gafhyb · 19/04/2012 17:45

Am aghast at the fanny-flashing. Just another reason for me to avoid swimming, alongside the general faff of getting wet and getting dry again

RevoltingPeasant · 19/04/2012 17:49

OP - best name ever Grin

Hecate you can get 'boy cut' suits that are cut lower on the leg, thus avoiding undesirable cuntage.

tittytittyhanghang · 19/04/2012 19:13

gah, now instead of worrying about my lack of boobage i am now worrying about undesirable cuntage! Ive never thought about that aspect! swimming is such a minefield.
