I live in the driest spot in Britain, there is a drought, we are all on a hosepipe Ban.....

And it hasn't stopped BLOODY RAINING for the best part of a fortnight! Confused
If this is a drought, God forbid we ever get a rainy spell!

But it's nothing to do with surface water, it's what's in the water table??

Dredging up memories from geography lessons here and they were a long time ago!!

Debsbear · 18/04/2012 15:48

It's like a rain dance you see, call a drought and a hosepipe ban and it starts raining! Simple!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 18/04/2012 15:51

Yes I know that Peugot, I just want to stamp my feet!

We've just been out in the drought to do the school run. Wellies, raincoats, bad hair.....
Angry

theincredibequeenofwands · 18/04/2012 16:42

The drought here is sooooo bad that I had to beg a lift home from the supermarket as the drought would've soaked me senseless!!

Was a only a five minute walk, but still....!!

CasperGutman · 18/04/2012 17:27

+1 to peugeotgringo, it's the groundwater, not the water on the surface that's the problem. The problem we have in the south east is due to years of low rainfall, and it'll take at least a year of at least average rainfall to sort it.

Look on the bright side: as long as it's raining you don't have to worry that there's a hosepipe ban as the rain waters the garden, tops up the pond and rinses the car for you after you've washed it!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 18/04/2012 20:54

Oh balls to the bright side! I'm soaked, the ponies are soaked, the paddocks are a mud bath, I just fell over in it, and none of he beasties are being ridden! This fucking drought is a nuisance!

OP posts:
SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 18/04/2012 20:57

My garden doesn't need watering, I don't have a pond and I never clean my car! So there!

FGS! The five day forecast predicts heavy drought showers! Will it ever stop droughting?

OP posts:
blondieminx · 19/04/2012 23:53

I feel your pain - have been stuck indoors with chickenpoxy DD all blardy week and the garden is soaking so we haven't even been able to play outside.Sad

booge · 19/04/2012 23:56

At least you don't actually need.to use a hosepipe.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 20/04/2012 00:00

Aksherly, I DO have to use a hosepipe! I get a dispensation to water the ponies! And believe me, wrangling 250m of manky muddy hosepipe across a sodden paddock is NO joke!

Our drought's got quite exciting what with the thunder and lightening as well. My tumble drier has also been extra-busy in these drought conditions Hmm

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 20/04/2012 14:59

I feel your pain! We've just had such heavy drought here in Chelmsford that it was bouncing back up when it hit the ground!

Our drought has left the end of our street under several inches of water.

And the drought in South London was so bad that the bottoms of my trousers were soaked through from puddles yesterday, even though I was wearing properly good platform-y type boots.

YANBU :)

pepperrabbit · 20/04/2012 18:13

Ah Fillybuster - that would be the same drought that stopped all the trains and meant it took me two hours to get home last night Smile!
I just texted DH to tell him that his waterproof trousers are still hanging in the kitchen... that'll be a soggy cycle back from the station.....

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 24/04/2012 08:47

GREAT! I've been droughted on so often, I now have a streaming cold! GRRR!!

It has rained every single bloody day since.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 24/04/2012 08:55

bronze · 24/04/2012 08:55

No it's my ds1s fault it's been like this since he finished school. He goes back tomorrow so allow a week more of droughting for all the things I need to get done now the children are off my hands

madmouse · 24/04/2012 09:00

It will take more than a few weeks of rain to sort out a drought caused by over a year of reduced rainfall.

And it is exactly the drought that makes it hard for the ground to absorb the rain that does fall.

bettybat · 24/04/2012 09:00

The drought caused lightening to hit Clapham and Victoria stations last week, adding two hours onto my journey home. This drought is lame!
