i am probably bu for posting a thread about a thread but I have woke up this morning to find a number of threads from posters moaning about attitudes on MN. The Internet is a large place and if you don't like it you can always go elsewhere.

OP posts:

Ok, So you are assuming you always know what a normal thread is? I don't disagree. I think the longer you are on here, the more of a nose you have for something being a bit "off", but I think you still have to hold back a bit.

Oh no, not just because they are new. Although less leeway is given to new posters, and more to frequent posters, just because people recognise their "style"

gafhyb · 18/04/2012 18:20

I have a strong suspicion we are agreeing with each other

LittleMissMcFartyPants · 18/04/2012 18:20

MN is fab in the majority and most of the boards give fab support and advice, do agree that at times it seems to have gone crazy in parts and respect and discussion is replaced by"if you don't like it go elsewhere" attitude.
AIBU at times is awful.

So YANBU to think that if a forum doesn't suit someone as a whole they could look else where but it is unreasonable to be unwelcoming to new posters and use that as a reason IYSWIM?

usualsuspect · 18/04/2012 18:20

People will always respond differently to more well known posters.

We were. But I was comparing and contrasting the lack of forgiveness about comments made by one vs the other. It's completely reasonable and understandable that you'll accept what a frequent poster says. I'm arguning that more leeway could be given to newbies.

gafhyb · 18/04/2012 18:29

Actually, scrap that. It's understandable, but not always reasonable to accept what a frequent poster says.

Oh Yes, sometimes to the point of obsession. I might not pick someone up on their nasty behaviour though.

gafhyb · 18/04/2012 18:39

Possibly. Different Jamies in various forms

Report them to hq and dont ingage with them. Its the same as any other social situation.

IDontWannaBeAStupidGirl · 19/04/2012 13:02

Reporting to HQ is of limited value IME.

They will delete a direct attack eg you are a bitch.

They will leave an indirect attack eg "it depresses me that people like you exist"

They will leave indirect bullying, such as hijacking a thread to talk nonsense, telling people to go elsewhere, remarks like "this thread is a crock of shit".

There is plenty of scope for nasty behaviour for the crafty.
