to not understand why people buy this cheese?

My fridge currently smells like the toilets in a cheap nightclub, after a bout of D&V has made its way through the patrons. I blame DH's stilton, camembert and unnamed holey cheese. Urgh. It makes me want to vomit every time I open the fridge (not to the extent of actually losing weight though)

You could try putting some coffee grounds in the fridge to absorb the smell. Or very strong instant coffee would work

Dillie · 16/04/2012 18:20

I have never really understood the fascination with blue cheeses.

I think it is the thought of eating mould just makes me Envy

(they need a queasy smiley!!)

winnybella · 16/04/2012 18:21

It is in a tupperware box and still smells? Wow, that's some potent cheese you got there.

Put the box in a larger box? Grin

I love stinky cheese, but, yeah, the smelly fridge is a serious downside.

Mishy1234 · 16/04/2012 18:21

YANBU, some of them smell rank.

DH loves one which smells like festering rugby socks. I think it's called 'Stinky Bishop' or something like that. Truly awful.

blueballoon79 · 16/04/2012 18:25

Stinking Bishop is beautiful! I'm drooling now! I love smelly cheese. It might smell awful but it tastes divine.

Mopswerver · 16/04/2012 18:26

My neice bought me a present of lovely cheese for my birthday this year. Too bad I was on my way to the hairdresser. The car certainly had an 'interesting' aroma when I returned to it after 2 hrs in hairdressers...Grin

My husband brought a very ripe Camembert home from France once - it stunk the fridge out in the most unappetising way, so we put it in the bin.

Within what seemed minutes, the entire house smelled like a Greco-Roman wrestler's athletic support - so it went to the outside dustbin, wrapped in layers of old bags.

The dustbin was a fair way from the house but, unbelievably, we were still getting foul wafts on the balmy summer evening air. Birds were starting to fall from the trees, like canaries in a mineshaft.

Panic ensued - this cheese was direct from Satan's bottom and the bin men weren't due for five days. We ended up driving across town (cheese in bag hanging out of car window) and dumping the fecking thing in a secluded litter bin.

God I love stinky cheese. In fact I'm on weight watchers so I'm going to have to hide this thread.
Cheeeeeese!

AmberLeaf · 16/04/2012 18:38

Argh! I want stinky cheese now!

Agamumnon · 16/04/2012 18:44

I am 40+5 and the only thing getting me through the days is the thought of the Stinking Bishop awaiting me in the fridge when DS2 deigns to make his appearance.

JustHecate · 16/04/2012 18:47

I love stinky cheese. Cheddar is tasteless, imo.

I don't, however, understand why people buy THIS cheese.

Mrsjay · 16/04/2012 18:48

I eat it when im out id never buy it unless at xmas and i eat it in one go , i love it but it bloody well stinks .

Mrsjay · 16/04/2012 18:48

I never buy it regularly*

WyrdMother · 16/04/2012 18:58

TalcAndTurnips ROFL!

I lurve cheese that oozes and/or whiffs.

A great many years ago my then employer had a staff canteen and you could have cheese and biscuits instead of a pudding.

Many a wrapped square of blue cheese was place between the panes of the double glazing and observed as it seeped through the wrapping, desolving it as it went.

You had to be carefull when you opened the windows though, we were eight floors up and no one could mistake that for a pigeon.

Primafacie · 16/04/2012 19:06

YABU. They smell of God's feet.

wonkylegs · 16/04/2012 19:07

You better not come round here as we currently have 18 different cheeses in the house Grin but if stored correctly it doesn't stink the house out, and are really really yummy.

BertieBotts · 16/04/2012 19:17

I am allergic to cheese. It literally makes me vomit.

Have never understood the attraction of the stinky ones!

YABU! Th stinkier the cheese the better!

MagsAloof · 16/04/2012 19:31

I am generally in favour of cheese - cheddar, cream cheese, halloumi, mozarella, even a bit of brie.

But I cannot do mould. I cannot do oozing and almost wriggling with bacteria. Nope. Just can't.

YANBU.

EmptyBotheredPocket · 16/04/2012 19:33

Mmmm Stilton, melted into cream is my favourite sauce.

NettoSuperstar · 16/04/2012 19:34

Stinky cheese rarely makes the fridge in my house, I eat it too quickly, but a couple of years back an MNetter sent me loads from Switzerland, and it properly stank.
DD was not impressed.
I wasGrin

NettoSuperstar · 16/04/2012 19:36

Lunatic, you ate half a stilton?
Half
Pah, you should've eaten the full thing.

Glittertwins · 16/04/2012 19:40

I love cheese like this but DH doesn't at all. I keep it on the work top wrapped in its waxy paper.
