To think that just occasionally the able of body/mind could accept a little disruption if it makes the life of this with disabilities easier

ds1 goes to a disabled swimming club which has just moved venue. A lot of the people who go are very vulnerable and have quite complex needs. Many have carers of the opposite sex. For example a 60 year old may act as a carer to her brother with SLD's of a similar age and may need to help him get changed.

Last week there was a shutter between the bit the club was using for changing (which led straight into the pool we use - separate from the other pools). The shutter could be opened by anyone but had a sign on it asking that it was closed behind anyone using it. So anyone could access the club's changing area they just needed to close the shutter behind them.

A member of the public complained Hmm so now there's no shutter. This means the club members have lost some privacy and from my point of view it's harder to herd severely autistic into the pool rather than into the rest of the (huge) changing rooms.

Why can't people just look outside their own little world for two seconds and realise that other people have more difficulty accessing pools etc than them?

Still no response - hopefully it was just because it was so chaotic last week with the gala.

Give it until tomorrow, then chase them! Angry

Update!

The person who runs the club met with the manager and the shutter has been reinstated. There's also now a sign up on the door saying that the area is reserved for the club. (which made me snigger a bit as the area is now less accessible to others than it eas before the complant. Anyway it's just as well as ds1 did appear starkers after using the toilet this week (followed by ds2 who i'd asked to help him saying 'I tried to stop him') and he really is too old to get away with that now!

A victory for common sense there !

Complain right back.
The management sound as weak as water to have given in to this, so exert a bit of pressure yourself and don't back down till you've been listened to.
Ignorant gobshites Sad

Ah. That'll teach me to read the full thread Blush

Saintly - great news!! Such a bloody shame it happened in the first place, but at least it has been sorted now.

I don't understand why people are so nasty/selfish/ignorant/thoughtless :(

Our local pool is a bit of a dump tbh but has at least always had the advantage of plentiful and varied changing facilities (communal male/female, plus disabled, plus family sized, plus many many individual cubicles) so I've never had a problem getting ds changed. Now they've got the whole area closed off for a complete refurbishment, (with a temporary cubicle 'village' on the poolside which is actually quite fun) and I'm waiting with trepidation to see if they've ruined the whole thing and made it as difficult as other pools mentioned on here. Fingers crossed they've had some common sense!
