Am I just a lazy cow or do other people do this?

Start rushing around tidying up about 15 minutes before the OH comes home from work?

It's my day off and I've spent it reading, playing with DD and drinking tea!!!

I should go and do the dishes.........

Like vviola, I tidy up livingroom/kitchen because I cant relax in a messy place, and I do it whether dh is coming home or not.

mrsalwaysawake · 16/04/2012 06:09

I do, too. Because he is a tidy person and I am not. Because he works all day every day and I am on mat leave. Because otherwise he will be in a grump about it, but not actually mention it, and then one day say 'we need to get a cleaner if you don't help me round the house more'.

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 16/04/2012 06:17

Yep, I give it about an hour before. And I do it specifically because DH is coming home and he will " tell me off" ie ask what I have been doing all day, and then go onto ask how long dd had slept for and do I realise that she won't go to bed this evening. And so on. Hmm

But, I also like the place tidy for the evening, but I can't be arsed all at the same time.

D0oinMeCleanin · 16/04/2012 06:22

Dh does it and tries to convince me he's 'been at it all night' even though a quick survey of the place shows me more mess than there was when I left and nothing done bar the sink being filled and a few forks (from their dinner) washed.

All manner of things stop him cleaning up. When we were looking after my sister's Lurcher was his most ridiculous excuse. That time he didn't do the obligatory sink filling. He couldn't because the dog wouldn't let him Confused. This is the dog who sleeps for 22 hours a day, is perefectly socialised with my own dogs and was sleeping in my whippet's crate exactly where I left him five hours ago.

Yes I think he is lazy but DH and I both work ft. I do nights, he works days. My days are spent cooking, cleaning, childcare and dog walking, his nights are his 'time off' Angry

Grin Yes, I totally do this.

And I'm a card-carrying feminist. I'm a SAHM at the moment, so keeping the house tidy during work hours is my job. It's not a job I love (stay-at-home parenting, that is), so I'm looking to return to paid work, but while it is my job, then I'll do it as well as I can. [meh emoticon]

Plus, if I do it then, then it's one less job for either of us to do before the G&T gets poured after the kids have gone down.

If my DH told me off for not doing it Shock on the other hand, he'd be history.

MarieFromStMoritz · 16/04/2012 06:33

Yeah, I am a bit like that, too. At least we're being honest. I can't stand it when women on here justify their messy homes by saying they have been running around after the kids all day, when you know full well they've spent all day on Mumsnet.
