To think this is a bit odd

A Facebook acquaintance of mine has posted a picture of a clearblue pregnancy test stick reading 2-3 weeks (test performed today).

I know it's not really any of my business, and her call, etc. I don't really care about it, but it's so far from what I would do, it seems a bit odd to me.

AIBU to think that telling the world at this point is rather premature?

Up to her. I told many people right away. I told FB long before the end of the first trimester.

HalfPastWine · 12/04/2012 12:34

Very premature but I suppose she's very very excited.

SydSaid · 12/04/2012 12:34

Yes it's a bit odd, but she's obviously delighted and wants to share the news with the world. Good luck to her!

WorraLiberty · 12/04/2012 12:35

No more odd than letting your dinner go cold whilst you photograph it and upload it so everyone can see what a lovely dinner you have Grin

RetiredDJ · 12/04/2012 12:35

Different strokes for different folks.
It may not be what you would do but try not to judge.

Iambaboon · 12/04/2012 12:36

I don't get the keeping it quiet thing. If something bad happened I'd want the support of my friends and family

Mind you I don't do acquaintances on fb, real friends only [antisocial]

SydSaid · 12/04/2012 12:37

Hahaha worra! I've even seen someone post a pic of fish and chips from the local takeaway .... Wtf? I don't get it.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 12/04/2012 12:38

My friend did this. It was the start of what seemed like an elephant pregnancy, it went on FOREVER.

Be warned, it'll be morning sickness updates, weight gain updates, movement updates and then, EVENTUALLY, labour updates.

I love my friend dearly, but had to hide her updates in the end. Smile

WorraLiberty · 12/04/2012 12:39

Syd if I see one more homemade cup cake I'm going to lose the will to live! Grin

solidgoldbrass · 12/04/2012 12:40

Must admit I don't get why so many people upload pictures of their dinners. Particularly as none of them look all that thrilling.

solidgoldbrass · 12/04/2012 12:41

Though the one I have still not got over is when one FB friend's 3-year-old DD did a poo in her potty that looked exactly like a turtle, so he uploaded a picture of it.

Rhubarbgarden · 12/04/2012 12:43

Photographing a wee stick is oversharing in my opinion.

SydSaid · 12/04/2012 12:44

Worra, I could send you a link to a friends blog. Her fb friends were so interested in her photos of food that she set it up so she could include 'how-to' pictures and recipes too....

TheMonster · 12/04/2012 12:45

I don't want to see the stick she did a wee on. How odd.

SydSaid · 12/04/2012 12:45

SGB I can't think of anything that would top that!

WorraLiberty · 12/04/2012 12:46

You could Syd yes

But unless you want to see a grown woman cry and pull every single strand of hair out of her head....please don't!

OMG SGB that's just too gross to contemplate!

Snakeonaplane · 12/04/2012 12:47

I sent by best friends photos of my pregnancy test five mins after it was done but I'd never put it on fb but then some people share everything gnon Facebook, I had to block one woman as she kept mentioning what unlovely ti e she was having with her dildo Shock

Snakeonaplane · 12/04/2012 12:48

*lovely

ZonkedOut · 12/04/2012 12:49

Well, I'm a wait to tell person, for my 2, I waited until the first scans because I'm paranoid I wanted to be safe. I get that you'd want some people to know if things went wrong, but not the whole world.

Overcooked · 12/04/2012 12:50

One of my 'friends' posted a picture of him with his todger wedged between his thighs (Silence of the Lambs stylee) - now that is odd!

Firawla · 12/04/2012 12:51

its not tht weird a lot of people do this i find it quite normal

solidgoldbrass · 12/04/2012 13:22

I am tempted to at least suggest that instead of posting photographs of their dinners, people post photographs of their most recent poos.

Except that I know a few of my FB friends would do it.

GreenPetal94 · 13/04/2012 19:50

I think its very odd. I told work at 15 weeks and then lost the baby and I was not pleased I had told them. OK I was pleased to have told a few friends who were supportive, but most people just acted awkwardly around me. Or the worst was the people who assumed I told before the 12 week scan and failed to realise I had miscarried so late.

Hassled · 13/04/2012 19:51

Yes, oversharing. If she'd wanted the world to know, surely the words "I'm pregnant" would have done.

Cremeeggsandkitkatsoldiers · 13/04/2012 19:57

actually I find that less odd than scan pics
but I don't like scan pics (even my own) - they're all medically, like an x-ray of inside your lady parts.. and the babies in scans look like aliens. - the worst thing about them is that you're supposed to say they look "cute" - black n white gut x-rays don't look cute to me?????

  • I'ld rather coo over a wee-stick TBH. Both scans and POASsticks are sorta intimate things so on a par IMO
