ZOMBIE THREAD

CurlyWurly09 · 01/07/2016 16:52

I am in no way a perfect parent or anywhere close. But I would never allow my child to watch South Park. She's nearly 7, DP has a 10 year old and she wouldn't be allowed either. I wouldn't be comfortable with them watching Eastenders either.

Nataleejah · 01/07/2016 16:56

Let him watch Happy Tree Friends instead

Sorry soup cant resist this one

How about Game of Thrones instead

calamityjam · 01/07/2016 17:28

Worra, I do think that the racism in programmes such as South park/ Family Guy etc is ironic. It is really just holding a mirror up to society and addressing some of the ridiculous prejudices which people hold. However you really do have to be an adult to understand this and therefore see the humour it intends, this is why it is probably not a good idea to allow young children to watch it. It wasn't designed to be for children, which is why it pisses me off when I see their logos on kids clothes and toys.

calamityjam · 01/07/2016 17:34

For God's sake, I always fall for zombie bloody threads aaaarrrrggghhh!
Dis someone mention Game of Thrones?

Drama123 · 01/07/2016 18:08

Southpark is a cartoon. For adults!
I would never want my child thinking it's OK to make fun of disabled children or explaining what the 'search for the clit' was!
I've watched it as a young adult and the content is totally inappropriate. Big no!

FaFoutis · 01/07/2016 18:13

Age 11 they learn about clits at school, and Timmy is challenging disabled stereotypes.

BaggyCheeks · 01/07/2016 18:16

Yay a Zombie Thread!

I am young enough to have been at school when South Park first came out. All it lead to was primary aged children getting told off for swearing at each other - Oh my God, you killed Kenny/Susan/Peter! You bastard! 11 year olds really aren't that sophisticated.

chelle87 · 01/07/2016 20:24

South Park is shocking. The attitudes against disabled people, constant reference to kyle the " jew" it.is totally for adults. As ppl said you need to appreciate the irony in it if you can tolerate watching it. I think 15 is a reasonable age before that it's just a recipe for disaster. I agree with the soaps though, I never had a problem with it then when ""robron" started with some very raunchy gay scenes I've not let mine watch a soap since. ( and yes i would have said the same had it been hetero sex although that would have take a bit less explanation)
Yes it's real life but they don't need to see it.

ohtheholidays · 01/07/2016 20:34

Southpark are you joking?None of us would have that on the tv in our house,it's awful and should never have been made!

ohtheholidays · 01/07/2016 20:35

Urgh South Park. Would far rather let an 11 year old watch EastEnders than South Park any day.

Andrewofgg · 02/07/2016 18:35

If I was bringing up a child now there's be no TV in the house, and that includes my room.

My great-niece, now 22 month, is being brought up without one and I will see with interest how it turns out. There was not one in my home till I was ten and I still turn instinctively to the radio before the television for entertainment.

Unicorn1981 · 02/07/2016 18:42

I've been watching Eastenders since I was about five and I'm ok 😆

TheJediSmurf · 02/07/2016 18:42

No no no no no 11 years old and watching south park !?!???? I'd make it very clear that no soaps or South Park will not be going on tv in my house.

CherryPicking · 02/07/2016 19:44

Why not just let him watch something better? Coronation St is something I'm growing to love. Although I do realise your son is 11, not 67.

HarryPottersMagicWand · 02/07/2016 21:42

THE SON IS NOT 11, HE WILL BE 16 NOW. IT'S A 4 YEAR OLD THREAD

CherryPicking · 02/07/2016 21:46

Well it might be interesting to see if he'll join us for a web chat so we can see how SP has affected his moral character then. I make him 15 BTW, and please don't shout.

SoupDragon · 02/07/2016 23:02

You didn't make him 15 2 hours ago.
