Bloody rabbit!!!

cherrypieplum · 11/04/2012 19:48

My younger sis in her infinite wisdom bought a rabbit for her dad, my stepfather as a surprise. It's currently sitting in my conservatory after
*messing a bedroom carpet
*messing my conservatory floor
*attempting to eat my new cot
*winding my dogs up

I mentioned to my mum that we had a furry surprise- she is not happy and they don't want it. I'm going away for a few days and have no-one to look after the bloody thing!! Can't get hold of my sister.

What is it about my sisters and their bloody, bloody pets!!

I'll be honest, I was expecting a more risqué post about a vibratorWink

cherrypieplum · 11/04/2012 19:52

Haha!! If only!!

TeWihara · 11/04/2012 19:53

Well, your sister's an idiot. Do you know anyone that does actually want a rabbit?

SparkyMcSparrow · 11/04/2012 19:54

Give them Rabbit stew ??

cherrypieplum · 11/04/2012 19:55

No!! I know someone who has a pet shop but they can't actually keep the bunny there because they aren't licensed for it! I'm furious!

Freecycle

TeWihara · 11/04/2012 19:56

There are bunny rescues, if you give a vague location there are posters who may be able to help.

SparkyMcSparrow · 11/04/2012 19:56

Or find it a nice home and tell you sister that if she wants a pet to bloody well look after it herself!

TeWihara · 11/04/2012 19:58

I wouldn't put it on freecycle unless you really don't give a shit what happens to it.

GrahamTribe · 11/04/2012 20:00

No, fgs don't offer it on Freecycle, you don't know who might take it on or what they'll do. Call a local rabbit or mixed small animal shelter and ask them to take it. Maybe the guys on MN pets can suggest where your nearest is if you repost there and tell them your county.

Callisto · 11/04/2012 20:01

Why on earth would a grown man (or anyone at all for that matter) want a rabbit, unless it was for the pot? Can you wring its neck and turn it into a nice rabbit pie?

Ratbagcatbag · 11/04/2012 20:03

Agree with TeWihara -please take it to a bunny rescue, the poor thing is probably terrified of the dogs and if you don't want it your probably just ignoring it, rather than trying to bond with it.
Where are you op, lets see if we can suggest some rescues - also please tell your sis she's an inconsiderate so and so, she's now got you an animal that will end up in a rescue and if it's lucky be rehomed, worst case PTS because she thought it was a great idea without telling anyone.

There is also a small furry animals section on mumsnet please try there.

GrahamTribe · 11/04/2012 20:03

That's just plain damn nasty, Callisto.

Callisto · 11/04/2012 20:04
Hmm
Ratbagcatbag · 11/04/2012 20:05

I'm a grown woman Callisto and actually have three of them, thankfully we aren't all the same

cherrypieplum · 11/04/2012 20:05

My mum has given her permission for my dog to eat it SparkyMcSparrow

It would solve my problem and save on dog food...

Your sister is an eejit! Bunnies are actually quite a big commitment! There is a rabbit rescue called Fairly Beloved Rabbits up here in Scotland, but I'm sure there will be others near you if you google. Get in quick before the rest of the Easter Bunnies find their way there too.

SparkyMcSparrow · 11/04/2012 20:07
Grin

Seriously, try and find it a good home! Failing that a good rescue!

DO NOT give it back to your sister!

Post in Super furry animals with a rough location and you might find some help!

Kayano · 11/04/2012 20:07

Well I'm now singing chas and dave. Thanks
Op

cherrypieplum · 11/04/2012 20:08

Thanks. I want to make sure the rabbit is looked after properly so probably cancelling time away until rehomed somewhere nice. Bloody girl!! So annoyed!!

She didn't even bring it in a sensible container! Cardboard box ffs!!

Chopstheduck · 11/04/2012 20:08

Try rabbits united forum, somewhere there would be able to advise how you can rehome it. Is is male, female? How old?

Some of the suggestions on this thread are appalling, you wouldn't say that about a cat or a dog. Rabbits are equally intelligent, their minds just work in different ways and you have to put a lot of work and effort into understanding them.

I also have three buns!

Chopstheduck · 11/04/2012 20:09

Poor rabbit must be terrified. Where on earth did she get it from?

cherrypieplum · 11/04/2012 20:10

Kayano apologies!!

So glad I didn't travel all the way to my mum's with a bloody rabbit she didn't want. That would've made for an awesome weekend(!)

SparkyMcSparrow · 11/04/2012 20:10

I would like to clarify that my 'rabbit stew' comment was a joke.

cherrypieplum · 11/04/2012 20:12

The rabbit is ok actually. Quite bolshy with the dogs (who are scared of it) and I have it in a very large dog crate so it has lots of room. Mostly I keep the dogs away. They just sniff in passing when I let them out.

He's a lovely young little thing. I have a friend who is willing to try him with hers. Fingers crossed.
