DVLA sent me a new logbook, spelt my name wrong so I have to send it back. Why should I pay for the stamp? AIBU

I don't often post here, but be damned if I am paying out for a stamp for their mistake.
They give no freepost address, I can't talk to a human being (it's all automated phone messages).

Screw them, they can pay postage and handling fee for underpaid item.

Or will it end up in the bin and I will have no logbook....?

AIBU or should I stop moaning and put a stamp on it.
Majority rules.........

I agree in principle - I've been fecked off on more than one occasion at the cost of petrol and parking to return something defective.

But it is just a stamp Grin

When I applied for a new driving license in my married name, the DVLA got it wrong and left the last letter off my new name. They sent me a new one without my having to send back the buggered on, so now I have two.

Don't waste a stamp, just make them send you a new logbook.

You'll probably end up with no log book as the royal mail have a habit of storing and not delivering business things without a stamp on.

Fatmummy35 is right

cabbagesoup · 10/04/2012 21:46

YANBU - would annoy me too!!

McHappyPants2012 · 10/04/2012 21:46

Well it cost less than £1 for a stamp or £25 for a new log book, the choice is yours :)

Lousmart · 10/04/2012 21:46

Outraged, They haven't asked for the wrong spelt licence back? Hmm. I rest my case. Identity fraud, assisted by the dvla. And we wonder ... Not accusing you obviously, but in the wrong hands?

Mistakes, innocent mistakes made by govt agencies.... dangerous ground

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 10/04/2012 21:46

We have a common sounding surname that is often incorrectly spelt, it has caused us problems in the past so I do understand how you feel but I think you've got to put a stamp on it else it'll end up binned or coming back to you.

Email them first though to see if they'll just send a new one out if it's their mistake.

LineRunner · 10/04/2012 21:47

scuzy, fancy a pint?

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 10/04/2012 22:01

They told me to destroy the licence with the wrong name on it, which is probably safer than me sending it back through the post where it could get lost, or picked up by a dodgy employee.

I thought it was wierd at the time too.

scuzy · 10/04/2012 22:07

would love one LineRunner ... you buying? cos am broke ... I bought a stamp today.

LineRunner · 10/04/2012 22:17

Yes, the drinks are on me, scuzy.

DVLA. Sigh. They've not improved in 10+ years. Stuff stamps, get back to basics DVLA. And do not get me started on photo-card driving licences...Angry
