Talk about overload. If there is another radio or tv program about it, I will, well ...I will. Lost for a good threat. It was big, it went down, lives were lost. Now can we move on.

Soooo agree!

cocolepew · 10/04/2012 14:15

I fed up to the back teeth with it, I live in NI so it's even worse here.

RuleBritannia · 10/04/2012 14:17

You are entitled to your views but let's not forget those who are still with us and lost their grandparents or even parents.

Sparklingbrook · 10/04/2012 14:18

YANBU. I think I know all I need to know about it now. It does seem to be on every programme and we all know what happened.

The anniversary is on the 14th i believe so it will probably get even worse.

BlackAffronted · 10/04/2012 14:19

It was a huge catastrophe, and it is a significant anniveresy. Do you feel the same about 9/11? Or any other loss of life on such a large scale?

StealthPolarBear · 10/04/2012 14:20

That's sad . I was actully thinking how little coverage there was, given its 100 years

Pandemoniaa · 10/04/2012 14:22

I know that the Titanic was the world's largest floating structure in 1912, I know that lots of people lost their lives when it sank (which came as a surprise given its alleged unsinkable qualities) but actually, why is there such a fearsome amount of hype about it? The film was bad enough, ffs.

I've been watching the news coverage about this cruise ship that's taken the same route this week and quite honestly, it comes across as an extremely bizarre event that combines remembrance with theme park.

Aribura · 10/04/2012 14:22

I think this image itself is sufficient justification.

EmilyPollifaxInnocentTourist · 10/04/2012 14:23

In terms of the loss of civilian life in major man-made catastrophes, the Titanic is actually pretty insignificant.

More than 1000 people a day right now die from inadequate access to clean water or malnutrition.

I don't know why the Titanic holds such a fascination nowadays but I suspect it's about rich, famous people dying.

BlackAffronted · 10/04/2012 14:24

Aribura - that is shocking!

Emily - or more likely the poor 3rd class in steerage who were not even given the oppertunity to save themselves!

Minimammoth · 10/04/2012 14:25

Where have you bean polar bear. It's on every 5 minutes. It's not about the scale of the tragedy, I agree it was a catastrophe as with 9.11. I feel, and do remember those who were lost and lost loved ones. I don't have dry eye on Nov. 11th. But I think it is being milked.

It fascinates a lot of people.

Sparklingbrook · 10/04/2012 14:26

It was 100 years ago so I understand why there would be the big media frenzy.

I remember 9/11 happening, so i don't think comparing the two is the same at all. Of course loss of life on a large scale is a tragedy.

It's just that it seems to be on the TV the whole time, and they are going over and over what we already know.

cocolepew · 10/04/2012 14:27

I blame the film, I can't believe that many people were interested in it before that.

LittleWhiteWolf · 10/04/2012 14:28

I think it depends on the actual coverage. If its documentaries and insightful programming I think its great. Titanic 3d, on the other hand, to me strikes as cashing in on a tragedy now that we're reaching the first century anniversary Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 10/04/2012 14:28

I learnt one new thing about it today. The cost of a ticket in today's money would be 35K.

It was in a feature on This Morning. Hmm

BlackAffronted · 10/04/2012 14:28

I was very into it before the film, as were loads of people I know. The film is quite rubbish.

Kladdkaka · 10/04/2012 14:29

That 'titanic cruise' is pretty twisted.

BlackAffronted · 10/04/2012 14:29

There wouldnt be so many programes about it if no-one was interested Grin

Sparklingbrook · 10/04/2012 14:30

What happens at the end of the Titanic Cruise?

hackmum · 10/04/2012 14:30

Saw an article in the paper which said that a year later another ship (sorry, can't remember details) sank with a much greater loss of life. The difference was that it sank very quickly, there were no survivors, so no-one left to tell the story. That's why we've all forgotten about it.

I'm pretty sick of it too, and the frenzy is out of all proportion. I think 1500 people died, but every year thousands of people lose their lives in earthquakes, floods etc, which are soon forgotten, sadly.

Aribura · 10/04/2012 14:32

I dunno, I think it'd be a lovely thing to just sail out there and stop the boat where and when it sank and give a little service. But from the photos I've seen it looks like a convention for Titanoracks. Would anyone be against the kind of service I mentioned or is it the extras like costumes that bug you?

Sabriel · 10/04/2012 14:33

YABVU. Don't watch it if it bores you that much. There are other channels.

It is 100 years ago this week, so it's a significant anniversary. I've learnt quite a bit from the Len Goodman programme that I wasn't aware of before.

Are you also bored with the endless reality shows we are served up? Cooking, gardening, talent shows, "celebs" who are famous for being famous , decorating. More and more crap. Personally I prefer to watch something factual for a change.

BlackAffronted · 10/04/2012 14:33

I think its because its 1500 of our people which keeps it in mind more.

BlackAffronted · 10/04/2012 14:34

Ive personally enjoyed all that Ive watched so far, better than a lot of the rubbish thats on just now!
