To want to tell you about a lovely thing that happened to me one Easter

When my DS was a toddler I got a nice little part-time job in the kitchen of a senior citizen's day centre - making custard, mopping floors etc.

The nice bit wasn't the making of the custard, it's that there was a rota of voluntary helpers from the club helping in the kitchen every day - all between 65 and 90.

All of them, male and female, were lovely and would chat to me about their grandchildren and ask about my little one.

Easter came around and on the day before Good Friday I had a steady stream of OAPs coming to me with an Easter egg that they'd bought for my DS - that not one of them had ever actually met!

We got 18 :) And no, I'm truly not exaggerating.

Best job I have ever had, all because of those lovely souls.

Just wanted to share - Easter always reminds me of this.

I gave some to the staff at nursery when I picked DS up - 'cos even we pigs that we usually are cannot manage to eat 18 Easter eggs Grin

Did you know there are hundreds of topics on Mumsnet?

and one of them is entitled Chat - for all your random "just wanted to share" needs.

blapbird · 08/04/2012 21:48

That's so lovely, makes me realise that it's not al the job it't the people that make it either bearable or unbearable.
Thanks for sharing and no YANBU Happy Easter [busmile]

MrsKittyFane · 08/04/2012 21:55

Well that's miserable bibbity

OP YANBU to want to share. It's a lovely story :)

HalfPastWine · 08/04/2012 22:10

What a lovely story, thanks for sharing.

Maybe bibbity is a bit naffed off because he/she didn't get many eggs Grin

MrsKittyFane · 08/04/2012 22:20

:o @ halfpast !

CrockoDuck · 08/04/2012 22:36

Bibbity...whatever How sad that something so completely trivial and inconsequential would bother you at all - so much that you felt the need to comment.

Clearly life is not treating you well. I hope it improves for you.

And you can post wherever you choose

timetosmile · 08/04/2012 22:43

AIBU then, to tell you another inconsequential but heartwarming story? Wink

DS(11) this evening had been playing out on the street and then back indoors with a girl from 5 doors away (also 11).

I decided 8.30pm was about the time to wrap things up, and DS asked,
"Would you like me to see you home as it's got a bit dark?" and proceeded to escort her 25m down the street and,
"I waited til her brother opened the door, Mum" to make sure she'd got home OK.

What a sweetie

AgentZigzag · 08/04/2012 22:45

That's so sweet, a lot of people just enjoy someone giving them the time of day, nothing else.

Grin at 'Clearly life is not treating you well. I hope it improves for you.' excellent comeback Grin

WorraLiberty · 08/04/2012 22:47

That's so sweet time...though I suspect it may offend some of the more hardcore feminists Grin

timetosmile · 08/04/2012 22:51

Worra..I wondered if someone might say that...so let me drip-feed the fact that she had said to him earlier that she hates going out in the dark!

MrsBeakman · 08/04/2012 22:51

timetosmile Get thee to the "Inconsequential but heartwarming" board. [wink[

thecook · 08/04/2012 22:59

Well I had a lovely Easter Sunday. For the last two years I have not been well. I have only been able to work part time. I planned to go to Evensong today as I worked till the early hours of this morning. I bought my first ever scratchcard at lunchtime. I won £1000. The exact money I owed the mortgage company in arrears. Still in shock! I was early for the church service!

fluffypillow · 08/04/2012 23:01

2 lovely stories [busmile]
