ok, its fun when they are small/easily taken in

then they get a bit older and moan they don't want to go a walk/look for eggs etc

then they get older again (like mine are now) and just say thanks for the eggs and thats that

happy days!

Oh, I used to enjoy it! Think it was more fun for me than for DS, I used to really go to town with clues etc.

ajandjjmum · 08/04/2012 10:41

Mine are old enough not to want eggs this year - I think it's quite sad! DH has taken them to the gym this morning, and is paying their guest entrance fee as their Easter pressie. Grin

maybe my memories are clouded by the day dh and went to great lengths to hide eggs, the kids found them

then all we wanted was a nice long walk back to the car, kids wanted to take short cut and refused to walk, literally sat in path and we walked out of their sight (whilst seeing them from behind a tree...)

they still refused to move even when they couldnt see us, the swines

we laugh about ti now, but dh and I were nearly done for murder that day Grin

DS still expects eggs though! I got him a very silly chocolate bunny just to be wicked [bugrin]

takingiteasy · 08/04/2012 10:44

We've never done it.

CrystalMaize · 08/04/2012 10:46

Still remember my Dad doing Easter egg hunts for me as kid. He used to hide those Smartie eggs in the garden. I cried once when I found one that had been raided by some animal or bird.

ariadne1 · 08/04/2012 10:48

how old are they OP? My 14,11 and 7 yo all keen to do one this morning (we set a trail with clues round the house) The 17 yo CBA getting up though!

maybenow · 08/04/2012 10:49

we never hunted eggs... i hadn't really heard of it till i was an adult.

we went egg rolling instead, and rolled real eggs we'd painted at some park or castle or somewhere... really enjoyed that... and we were given a big chocolate egg each.

HandMadeTail · 08/04/2012 10:50

I so know what you mean ssd! Not about Easter eggs, as mine still do a hunt, (inside the house, so it's easy to organise).

But wrt many other things, life gets easier when they are older.

We went to the zoo, yesterday, a drive of about 1 hr 20. They are 12, 10 and 8. They now get that a drive is necessary if going to the zoo, not some torture inflicted by DH and me. So the car journey is much easier, now, than when they were younger. Hooray!

cybbo · 08/04/2012 10:54

I leave tricky clues for mine (16,11 and 8)

eg 'Look where the wasing powder is kept' and theyre like 'huh?'

Wallace · 08/04/2012 10:57

I did anagrams for my older ones :)

Zippylovesgeorge · 08/04/2012 10:58

Just been told by my 2 (16&14) that they will not be hunting for mini-creme eggs later - they are too old :(

Heyho I'll just eat them myself!!

BusinessTrills · 08/04/2012 11:09

There was never a point where you had to.

usualsuspect · 08/04/2012 11:11

I never did it with mine.

Hulababy · 08/04/2012 11:15

I've never done Easter hunts. We get DD an egg or a gift, but never in 10 years have we done a hunt. I never did either as a child. Never felt we/DD misses out tbh.

HandMadeTail · 08/04/2012 11:19

We did all sorts of things when they were younger, but once we started doing hunts, they came to expect it. They love the hunt, and are so lovely, sitting down and sharing the eggs or whatever out equally.

So of course we don't have to do it. It's just a family tradition that's evolved.

bamps33 · 08/04/2012 11:24

This morning my DH (27) hid the eggs for me (26) and my bro (28). Our Easter traditions, including the hunt, are among the happiest memories of our childhoods (me and bro that is). I know our parents would love the fact we were still doing this in our 20s if they were alive to see us!

AwkwardMaryHadAnEasterLamb · 08/04/2012 12:30

I don't think it's "shite" I think it's fun and lovely.

cybbo · 08/04/2012 12:32

I would rather make my children work to get the 3 lbs of chocolate they wil receive rather than just lob it at them from across the room

seeker · 08/04/2012 12:38

Mine are 16 and 11 and still demand a proper hunt and a letter from The Rabbit!

SeaHouses · 08/04/2012 12:39

What is this being too old for eggs, AJJM? I am 39 and my Mum still gives me an egg, and she still makes me a up a Christmas stocking.

boglach · 08/04/2012 12:39

It was ds birthday last week. we had a party and did an egg hunt for the kids, it was great fun!

I was going to do egg rolling today but dd and I are ill. Not too ill to eat chocolate though, so dh has taken ds out for the day and we are vegging on sofa in front of cbeebies and eating choc eggs

SeaHouses · 08/04/2012 12:40

We even have rawhide Easter eggs for the dogs.

ssd · 08/04/2012 12:57

mine are 11 and 13

tbh they are/were more interested in the chocolate than all the hunt for eggs nonsense, they probably went along with it for us!!
