ok, its fun when they are small/easily taken in

then they get a bit older and moan they don't want to go a walk/look for eggs etc

then they get older again (like mine are now) and just say thanks for the eggs and thats that

happy days!

I didn't bother this year with Easter eggs.
Gave them a tenner each which dd has already spent.

StripyMagicDragon · 08/04/2012 13:14

Mine is 3 and she lived doing a wee egg hunt in the house this morning. I never had egg hunts, nor did dh when we were little, but I thought it would be fun. She loved it :)

And you're never too old for choccy eggs!

saffronwblue · 08/04/2012 13:14

Mine are 10 and 13. I took them out yesterday and bought them a dvd and a chocolate rabbit each. Held back some eggs luckily as they both appeared this morning saying, "so when is the hunt, then?"
I enjoy it - I just scatter them around our garden and it makes me nostalgic for when they were little.

cinnamonnut · 08/04/2012 13:27

I'm 17 and I had a hunt this morning :o

Wallace · 08/04/2012 14:58

We have never done the Bunny shite btw

susiedaisy · 08/04/2012 15:01

Never done an Easter egg hunt find the idea of it boring and pointless, glad mine dc are older when they were little it wasn't as popular as it is now, I realise this makes me sound like a right misery but there you go! Smile

Mrsjay · 08/04/2012 15:11

DS is 4 and we made him a map of the house, It was great fun!

They get so excited it melts your heart.

SixtyFootDoll · 08/04/2012 15:32

We never did the Easter bunny/ hunt thing. We didn't do it as kids and I can't see the point in it.

jammydodger1 · 08/04/2012 17:37

we have never done it before but dd2 (7)came down this morning asking if easter bunny had been Confused and hidden eggs outside in the garden, cried when she though he hadnt, emergency opening off all creme egg larges eggs to extract the smaller one and rushing around outside hiding them disaster diverted but must remember next year when someone will have informed her its not true along with tooth fairy and the other man

KurriKurri · 08/04/2012 18:32

I think it's good for kids of all ages to have to forage for sustenance occasionally - stops them getting complacent Grin

LittleMissFlustered · 08/04/2012 20:09

Never bothered, never will. Mine are 9, 4 and 13 weeks:)

lolajane2009 · 08/04/2012 20:11

i dont think i'll do it with son (7 mths) in the future. i'll jus do church and then in laws

dementedma · 08/04/2012 21:58

DS came egg rolling but said "everyone will think I'm a big baby" so looks like we're nearing the end of it. Been doing it for 20 years so won't shed any tears lol, (I mean, as a family we have been doing it for 20 years - DC1 is 21 now). DS is 10.

marriedinwhite · 08/04/2012 22:25

Well we didn't have a hunt as such but I put the eggs on alternate stairs. Shiny pink one, Lindt bunny, shiny blue one, lindt bunny, bunny with ferrero rocher in, box of cream eggs.

They're 17 and 13 (nearly 14) and it was lovely to see them with the stash on the sofa sharing it out like a pair of toddlers. One in his pants with a few hairs on his chest and one in an oh so grown pair of jammies Grin. Now, 10 year ago, me and dh would have been nibbling on chocolate - now it's either all eaten or stashed in bedroom drawers Sad

fluffypillow · 08/04/2012 22:48

I wouldn't get away with not doing an egg hunt, and my boys are 14 and 9yrs! I am very anal organised too........ each child has eggs with a different coloured sticker to collect so they don't kill each other!

This year dd (15months) was old enough for a hunt, so she was given a basket, and toddled off to collect her stash (only a few little eggs and little toys). This was so lovely for us all to watch.

The egg hunt is a tradition in our house, and ds14 told me today he doesn't think he will ever want me to stop it!

SwedishEdith · 08/04/2012 22:59

Never did it as a child but love it now for mine especially as I am still in bed when it happens DP writes the clues and then the youngest plays it all over again with her dolls. My late mum still got us Thornton's eggs with our names on when we were all in ours 40s

cory · 09/04/2012 08:43

Mine still enjoy it at 11 and 15.

seeker · 09/04/2012 09:55

I do think it's sad when people say that they can't be bothered with things like egg hunts, or are glad when they don't have to do them any more. All of that sort of nice stuff goes to make up a child's "mental furniture"- and makes them nicer people when they grow up. iMHO.

AmberLeaf · 09/04/2012 10:17

Are egg hunts an americanism? we never had them when I was small.

Mine used to think the easter bunny dropped off their eggs in the night, my youngest found out it waS actually me last year, I still put them on the end of their beds before I go to sleep though.

My granny used to do the hard boiled coloured decorated eggs though which I loved and have attempted myself.

I am a bit Hmm at people giving easter presents though, its an egg or nothing as far as im concerned and IMO you're never to old for a chocolate egg!

LittleMissFlustered · 09/04/2012 10:20

It's not the be all and end all though is it seeker? I find it tedious, but we do epic craft afternoons, undertake adventures to museums that they can 'play' in and all sorts of other stuff that they'll remember fondly. Just because I detest twee crap like egg hunts doesn't mean they're going to be any more unbalanced than their genes have already left them[buwink]

Ephiny · 09/04/2012 13:11

We never did egg 'hunting' when I was young, in fact I'd never heard of it before reading about it on MN. Maybe that's why I haven't grown up to be a nice person Hmm.

I do remember decorating (real) eggs at school, and we made 'Easter bonnets' (not sure what all that was all about now I think of it!)
