To think that a dog who has rolled in a dead seal...

... should not be showered in my nice, clean en-suite bathroom, but should instead be hosed off and washed outdoors, even though that meant a very cold bath?? Dh was fully intending to bring ddog2 through the house, reeking of rotten, dead seal, through our bedroom, to shower her in our en-suite. [bushock] I said no, and insisted he wash her in the garden, with the garden hose. WIBU?

Ddog2 is in disgrace. [bugrin]

YOu're not in the hose pipe ban region then Smile

pjmama · 06/04/2012 17:10

When mine rolls in fox poo, she gets shampooed outside with the freezing cold garden hose! I'd like to think perhaps it will make her think twice next time, but of course it never does! Grin

PurpleRomanesco · 06/04/2012 17:13

Yanbu! Maybe have a nice warm towel waiting for when it's done?

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 06/04/2012 17:13

You're allowed to use hosepipes to maintain living creatures, like pond fish and dead seal covered dog horses.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/04/2012 17:13

No hosepipe ban here, thankfully, Random!

Pjmama - ddog2 does look a little hangdog, and did not enjoy her bath, but I doubt it will make her think twice the next time she encounters dead, runny livestock and wants to roll in it.

She has vile, disgusting habits. We had to take her to the vet for an emergency consult, a few weeks ago, because she was salivating continuously, and that can be a bad sign. After elimintating other possible causes, the vet concluded that she had licked a toad. Truly disgusting habits. It's as well she's cute! [bugrin]

Onoes, is this the dog brought home on the train? Bet you were popular Grin

RandomMess · 06/04/2012 17:16

It's bad enoough our cats sometimes sit under cars and stick of fuel Angry

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/04/2012 17:17

And she still smells - after being shampooed twice and hosed off. So now I am going to let dh take her upstairs and shower her. The worst of it is off, so I don't mind her going in there now.

But dh had better clean all the dog hair off the shower tray and bathroom floor - I only cleaned in there yesterday!

[bugrin] at licked a toad. She sounds brilliant!

IAmBooyhoo · 06/04/2012 17:18

the bit that gets me is that he rolled IN the dead seal. not even on in but actually in it. Envy

MothershipG · 06/04/2012 17:21

It won't make her think twice! Smile

My Ddog1 has a hatred of being washed and a fondness for fox poo, unfortunately by the time I get the stinky, not-so-ddog home and in the bath she, of course, has no idea this is in any way connected with her delightful new spritz of eau de merde reynard! [buconfused]

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/04/2012 17:21

She was brought home on the train, Sue - but it was only a short journey, and dh kept her in the vestibule. And driving home from the station, he opened all the car windows!

try tomato ketchup to get the smell out

SuePurblybiltFromChocolate · 06/04/2012 17:25

Imagine the slime

ceres · 06/04/2012 17:26

personally i do think yabu, but my staffie is incredibly spoiled and would probably leave home if he suffered the indignity of being hosed down with cold water........he acts like i am trying to murder him when he is given a nice warm shower!

i remember reading that tomato ketchup gets rid of the smell of skunk from dogs fur - not sure whether it would work on dead seal but may be worth a try.

ceres · 06/04/2012 17:27

longjane beat me to it with the tomato ketchup!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/04/2012 17:29

We will try ketchup, if the shower doesn't work. I did wonder about febrezing her, but decided against it.

Oh uuurrggh! Our dog once rolled in a fox's carcass and the stench of him was unholy!!

He was indeed hosed down outside in the garden!

Kbear · 06/04/2012 17:32

see, this is why I have goldfish....

redpanda13 · 06/04/2012 17:40

another one suggesting rubbing in ketchup then rinse off and wash with normal dog shampoo. works a treat with fox poo and when my dog rolled on a dead salmon. let us know if it works for seal!

BrianCoxHasScaryEggs · 06/04/2012 17:46

LadyBeagleEyes · 06/04/2012 17:47

My dog stinks at the moment, but he's too fat heavy to put in the bath.
It's a two man job, and he hates it, poor love, but I'll talk ds into helping me.
Will try the ketchup thing, he can start licking it off which may keep his mind of the shower.

AllShiney · 06/04/2012 17:51

I don't get why they would roll in dead things?

But I'm a bit happier my cat only deposits small dead things on my doorstep now.

BigBirdsFriend · 06/04/2012 17:57

Dead seal takes the [bubiscuit]!

Thank god mine only loves eau de merde Reynard (thank you MothershipG) though I am sitting here thinking that the nasty odour is not fox, not nappy but perhaps another small rotting furry body that I've not spotted... Gotta love the cat, she is teaching the kitten what to do!

HoneyBunnyDragon · 06/04/2012 18:03

Oh sympathy on the toads

My Lab is a chronic toad and frog licker, the twat does not learn, the dribble is constant her chest is soaked and the floors are death traps.

She rolled in fox poo once I swore at her all the way home, swore at her through a ice cold hosing swore at her in the bath and swore at her for the rest of the day. She took the hint on that one and has not done it again.
