To not want cheap, nasty, Iceland type party food

At my Son's Christening meal?

Yes I probably am being very unreasonable, but Dammit! I am putting a lot of effort into making a nice meal for the family for after DS's christening. Nothing fancy, but decent quality food - Naice Ham, decent beef, salads, posh bread (as opposed to sliced white Wink) etc.

I am already getting a particular brand of beer for one member of the family, another has already mentioned they are quite partial to another brand.

Now, a request has been made for sausage rolls, mini sausages and drumsticks - just the cheapy ones, they won't eat the posh ones.

No one has any 'dietry' requirements, this is all just being fussy. Then someone asked what the kids were going to eat, as most kids aren't like my kids (WTAF? Most kids will eat a ham sandwhich) The only addition I have made for the kids is some Pom Bears (of course) and some fairy cakes.

Am I really being unreasonable?

I would ignore everyone and just do what you were going to do anyway. As you say there are no real dietary requirements, just personal fussy preferences.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/04/2012 15:51

YANBU at all!

I loathe people who are reverse snobby about food.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/04/2012 16:02

I do have a sad and depraved liking for the Iceland/Tesco/Co-op frozen chinese party nibbles, especially the duck spring rolls and the sesame prawn toasts. I will understand if I am drummed off mumsnet. BlushSadGrin

lesley33 · 05/04/2012 16:05

as long as you say you don't approve of Fruit Shoots and Gregg sausage rolls, you will be okay.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/04/2012 16:06

I did once try a Greggs sausage roll - to see what all the fuss was about - and I thought it was vile. Ditto Fruit Shoots. Can I stay now, pleeeease???

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 05/04/2012 16:07

Ooooh, SDTG, they sound fantastic!

Oh, and I love Greggs food, albeit not sausage rolls; I'm more of a chicken-pasty girl.

I've never had a Fruit Shoot though and have no opinion on them.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/04/2012 16:07

SDTG - just tell everyone you bought them from Waitrose, no-one will know if you take them off the plastic platter thing they come on Grin

lesley33 · 05/04/2012 16:08

SDTG - Yes of course you can stay then. LadyClarice on the otherhand Hmm

MissKeithLemon · 05/04/2012 16:08

I do apologise OP if I misread your thread... but I still maintain, that the title especially, of this thread is snooty, snobby, call it what you will.

Many Some people do really like sausage rolls & drumsticks as party food... but that doesn't mean it has to be cheap & neasty as your post implies.

Even tories eat pasties dontcha know Wink

dribbleface · 05/04/2012 16:09

gosh how rude, ds1 is fussy fussy and he either eat's before we go or goes hungry. if a 4 year old can manage it I'm sure adults can. although i do like the prawns ball thingy's Iceland's do!

lesley33 · 05/04/2012 16:10

Keith - I agree actually. If you don't like Iceland food dine, but I wouldn't knock others for it. But I do think putting in orders for a buffet someone else is doing is very rude.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 05/04/2012 16:12

Confession time......

I do like cocktail sausages and sausage rolls, at a kids party I am all over them like a nasty rash :o

But, they are not what I would call special occasion food. Added to the fact everything is going to be cold and transported 40 miles.

And in this case, they do have to be cheapo ones, the person in question hates any kind of herb or flavour texture.

But it is done. I have learnt my lesson, if I ever have a family get together, Iceland are doing the catering. Party platters for all! Yay!

how rude! Shock

lesley33 · 05/04/2012 16:15

Only on MN would people "confess" to liking cocktail sausages and sausage rolls!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 05/04/2012 16:16

BlushBlushWhat about the sausages that come wrapped in bacon, to go with a turkey/chicken - they are even more irresistible than cocktail sausages.BlushBlush

Though they would be vile cold. Chicken drumsticks wouldn't, though.

Your menu sounded lovely.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 05/04/2012 16:20

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 05/04/2012 16:22

lesley, give me back my MN membership badge!

MysticMugBug · 25/11/2012 00:16

they are being rude. It's your day and who wants to eat junk?
that mum's setting them up for an unhealthy life if they will only eat pizza and ham by its self.

ZebraOwl · 25/11/2012 00:37

YANBU

Your party, you get to pick the food. Only reason people should be asking you about it is if they have actual dietary needs (vegetarian/Kosher/nut allergy) & want to sort out the accommodating thereof, be that you getting them something or them bringing something!

Answer to "what will the children be eating?" is snozzcumbers. Always. With variations thereupon e.g. Snozzcumber Stew or Snozzcumber Sandwiches. Or is that just my bonkers family?

Molehillmountain · 25/11/2012 00:42

They are being rude, but I would want to cater for my guests so would meet them half way.

WorraLiberty · 25/11/2012 00:45

The mind boggles as to what one was searching in order to resurrect a zombie thread like this?

I bet it was Kerry Katona wasn't it?
