...to not get decorative bed cushions?

They just get in the way imo, you've got to find somewhere to put them when you want to go to bed.

they seem popular in hotels and my DM and MIL seem a bit into them too.

i think the record I've seen is one in PIL's house with 6 pillows and 5 assorted cushions.

WTAF?

I have one on my bed, but only because I covered it myself during a random act of craft-ism, and didn't have anywhere else to put it. I just chuck it on the floor/end of the bed at bedtime.

Kleptronic · 04/04/2012 20:46

YANBU. Anything that could potentially become lodged in your teeth when biting a pillow is a foible and an unnecessary hazard.

smoggii · 04/04/2012 20:48

Only in the spare room where they are a PITA to my guests but not me and they look pretty when it's not occupied

MirandaGoshawk · 04/04/2012 20:49

Klept - er, TMI?!

OP - YANBU. I loathe bed cushions with a passion because MIL thinks they are the height of good taste because they are useless and unnecessary and a waste of time.

Yes OP YABVU. As a mum you owe it to your husband to make an effort to make an attractive and comfortable home for him to come home to after a hard day at work. I frankly find your lazy attitude rather disturbing.

thistle Shock. Well what more can I say?

...not like in my day. Young people these days!

IAmRubyLennox · 04/04/2012 20:56

I have three of them, the DSes each have one and DD has two. We're quite a cushion-y household.

I prop all of mine, plus my pillows and DH's up behind me in a spectacular feather-filled pile while I sit up in bed of an evening drinking tea and eating pink wafers while flipping through the Lakeland catalogue. Good times.

FeakAndWeeble · 04/04/2012 20:58

I bought a couple to sit 'artistically' propped in front of our actual pillows. The cat has clawed them to pieces and when DS was in bed with us the other day he did a giant sneeze which went everywhere, so I groped under the bed and grabbed the first thing I could find to wipe his face - which was, yes, one of the fancy cushions.

Also DH told me that they looked like 'ballbags' Hmm

jaggythistle · 04/04/2012 20:59

i can see the propping potential right enough...

feathers make me sneezy and itchy though so that would be bad.

i currently have an undecorative pillow collection in bed to arrange around my enormous bulk at night.

OP - I actually agree with you. And don't worry about over thinking this - this is what AIBu is about.

Toeuffeta · 04/04/2012 21:00

DD has loads. She sleeps on none of them, always ends up halfway down her bed buried under duvet. But they are good for me when reading stories in bed to her. Grin She also uses them as beds for her cuddly toys and dolls.

DS laughs at cushions, he's a pillow fan

They do get in the way on our bed so I'd never have them. I also think they smack a bit of "tryingtomakemybedroomlooklikeahotel", which isn't my scene, tbh.

PurplePidjin · 04/04/2012 21:00

Thank you, Klept, dp and I both chortled at that one Grin

jaggythistle · 04/04/2012 21:01

i just snorted at 'ballbags'!

ps Lakeland have reduced their delivery charges a bit if you're shopping Ruby...

I used to have so many that it took am hour to get into bed. Fuck that, none now!! Am always drawn to them but then remember what a PITA they were...

IAmRubyLennox · 04/04/2012 21:04

excellent news, jaggythistle, I'm fresh out of Oven Mate Grin

LadyMaryCrawley · 04/04/2012 21:05

YANBU

they are just fat litter.

LizzieMint73 · 04/04/2012 21:08

YANBU OP

I really don't see the point, we don't have any cushions at all in our house. wouldn't be any point anyway, the cats would just deposit their hairs all over them.

I worked away a lot last year and the first thing I always did when arriving at my hotel room was strip the bed of all the excess cushions and that weird strip of material at the end of the bed, the purpose of which I have no idea. I even left polite notes for housekeeping not to put it all back and they always did, even when I stuffed it all in the wardrobe.

Kleptronic · 04/04/2012 21:19

De nada, Purple. It was posted as a public service. Trying to remove a sequin from your gnashers can really spoil the moment.

Mrsjay · 04/04/2012 21:23

ive a familiy member when showing us her new house took pride in her beautifully dressed bed , it looked very show homey and tbh i think she slept on the floor Grin as she was scared to move the cushions a santin throw , she had 9 pillows of different sizes on her bed , what a faff ,

jaggythistle · 04/04/2012 21:25

9 - that may beat my MIL's record... :)

DH likes his cushions. When we were first dating I commented that were it not for the obvious I'd have suspected he was gay as he has a few cliched characteristics.

DH: Why? It's not as if I have scatter cushions.

Me: You do. There are two on the sofa!

DH: Ok but I don't have NICE scatter cushions.

Me: Define what makes a nice scatter cushion.

DH: Well it's... yeah ok.

We have lots now and all meet DHs definition of nice. On the wishlist for the house is a particular style of union flag cushion that is clear in his mind.
