...to not get decorative bed cushions?

They just get in the way imo, you've got to find somewhere to put them when you want to go to bed.

they seem popular in hotels and my DM and MIL seem a bit into them too.

i think the record I've seen is one in PIL's house with 6 pillows and 5 assorted cushions.

WTAF?

I can understand if you have a studio flat, or you're a student in halls, when you might have friends round and the bed will look nicer. But for most people, these are cushions which need to be removed before you get into bed. And for most people, you don't spend time in the bedroom unless you are in the bed!! So what are they for? Looking nice when you briefly go in there to put clothes away or hoover? They are just a marketing gimmick so that stores can sell stuff you don't need. Like these kitchen utensils that have several different slicers and dicers and take ages to clean, when all you really need is a sharp knife.

They are dead handy for extra props when servicing DH reading the papers in bed on a Sunday morning, I must say Grin

I have one 'decorative' bed cushion. My auntie came over from Australia and bought me a matching blanket and cushion cover and they happen to be the same colour as our bedroom walls so that's where it ended up. I'm rather sentimentally attached to it as I miss her very much, but I refuse to let any more cushions migrate to the bedroom.

We have 4 pillows that can be slept on. Then two pillows that go on top and are purely for display. Then four co-ordinating cushions.

I bloody love my bedroom. It was the last room in the house to be decorated. We had to wait 15 years until we could afford it. Now it's all co-ordinating colours and F&B paintwork. It's fabulous, I don't care that nobody else sees my cushions, I do and I love them. Grin

i can't be arsed with the decorative pillow malarkey. if i don't need to sleep with them, then they don't need to be on the bed.

hate chucking them on the floor, where they'll just get all manky.

DoubleGlazing · 04/04/2012 22:32

YANBU. They're pointless tat and a waste of space.

toofattorun · 04/04/2012 23:29

Each to their own. I have 5 on my bed and it looks lovely.

NorkyPies · 04/04/2012 23:37

Cushions are useful for storing all the other fabrics, throws etc. that you also don't need and would otherwise be in the way.

CointreauVersial · 04/04/2012 23:47

I'm with LooLilly. Our bedroom was the last room in the house to be renovated, and I don't care if it's just me and DH who see it, I LOVE my little co-ordinating cushions, all three of them. And the throw. And the pictures. And the nice furniture. And the posh wallpaper.

If you are going to apply the "why bother if no-one sees it" rule, you might as well sleep on a mattress on the floor with four bare walls.

Hownoobrooncoo · 04/04/2012 23:48

A few are ok and the kids love chucking them about.

RustyBear · 05/04/2012 00:03

I currently have my iPad propped up on one at a convenient angle so I can MN lying comfortably on my side.

Chilenachica · 05/04/2012 16:55

YABVU in my opinion, but only because my 3 purple tassly cushions look lovely on my bed. I chuck them on the floor overnight and them fling em back in the morning. I don't do precision cushion alignment.
