to think the mop head should be washed seperatly and not with dd1's bedding?

This is the mop head we use for the bathroom floor or the downstairs wood floor where the dogs brings in mud etc on her paws.

My husband says it doesn't matter, it all gets drained off.

Aibu to think he is being disgusting. The mop head should be washed by it's self (if for no other reason than to stop the hairs transferring onto our clothes)

Today I found the mop head chucked in with dd1's bedding. IMO this needs to stop but other than banning him from doing any washing I don't know what else to say to him.

So when you took the bedding out of the machine, was it covered in dog hair/mud? Does your washing machine not work very well?

I don't know, I don't have a dog - maybe dog hair doesn't come off in the wash. In which case, you probably shouldn't put the mop head in the washing machine at all.

But if everything comes out clean, what's the problem?

SoupDragon · 03/04/2012 13:13

GIven that your DD already has close contact with the dog, mud and whatever I can't see the problem TBH

knowitallstrikesagain · 03/04/2012 13:13

YABU to worry about mixing bed linen with dirty stuff. I know this because I used to think this way but soon realised I would never manage to wash baby clothes with poo up the back of them if they didn't go in with something else, despite being rinsed first.

I would love to wash everything seperately but washing machine is on all the time and would have to wait ages to get full loads if I didn't mix. And after all, you use the same washing machine for the next wash. Do you clean it out after washing the mop head?

YANBU to want them washed seperately because of spending the next few days picking hairs off all laundry.

Pandemoniaa · 03/04/2012 13:15

You wash the mop head? Blimey! Round here they get chucked out and replaced once they get covered in muddy dog hair.

But actually, if I were to wash a mop head that was in a disgusting condition, it wouldn't be with clothing. Which is probably why it'd never occur to me to put it in the washing machine since it's clothes that get washed in there. Not random household items that are better replaced.

mrsotter · 03/04/2012 13:16

The bedding doesn't come into contact with the dog, as the dog isn't allowed upstairs.

I don't think yabu but also think we are probably going to be the minority! I put the cleaning cloths and bath rugs as separate washes and won't put them with our clothing. I just don't like the thought of things like mop heads or cleaning cloths being washed together with clothing.

mrsotter · 03/04/2012 13:16

It's a smart mop. With a washable head.

YADNBU!

Jesus ! I'd go mad! A mop head with the babies bedding. I'd have to chuck the lot. The fool. Grr on your behalf!

In my house anything that comes into contact with a floor or toilet is thrown out after use!

Pandemoniaa · 03/04/2012 13:20

It's not that smart a mop. Otherwise it'd walk itself to the washing machine and decline to be included with the bedclothes.

ZeldaUpNorth · 03/04/2012 13:21

Why have i never thought of putting the mop head in the washer? Instead i spend ages rinsing and wringing, rinsing and wringing....right off to wash the mop! lol

mrsotter · 03/04/2012 13:21

It's my husband that's failing the smart test in this instance Pandemoniaa

Including your arse and feet?

mercibucket · 03/04/2012 13:25

Is the bedding covered in dog hairs? If so, yanbu. If not, yabu - but if you are a bit controlling with the washing (I understand) just ban him and do it all yourself - less hassle in the long run

thebody · 03/04/2012 13:26

Eeeeew horrible defiantly you are nbu.

Thistledew · 03/04/2012 13:31

How about putting the mop head inside an old pillow case when it is washed? It would still get clean but would prevent hairs etc coming into contact with the bedding.

MaMattoo · 03/04/2012 13:51

YANBU I too wash the cleaning/dusting/ mopping cloths with floor mats. And nothing but clothes get washed with my clothes. I go so far as to wash all kitchen stuff on its own too - dish cloths, tea towels, towels from the kitchen etc.

I guess the rod has been created for my own back, I am the sole washer, dryer, folder and put-awayer in our house for the same pernickety attitude.

Sootie · 03/04/2012 13:53

YANBU...I think that's a bit disgusting.

My mum used to be a bit OTT about things like this, and passed it on to me. She never EVER washed tea towels in the machine because she used to think the machine was dirty after washing all our clothes and underwear. She used to boil tea towels in water and washing up powder and then hand wash them in the kitchen sink. I used to do this too until about 6 months ago when I just couldn't be arsed to boil and wash anymore.

Pandemoniaa · 03/04/2012 14:00

How can a washing machine be dirty after washing clothes? That's surely the point of a washing machine? It takes grubby stuff in and produces cleaner versions. I can understand how machines can get dirty - oily overalls wouldn't help - but a quick wipe around would leave it perfectly clean. And certainly clean enough to tolerate the bacterial nightmare that tea towels can be.

you're over reacting
the detergent and wmch will clean mop and clothes
lol,at banning him doing chores, yes thats great idea.for him

LetsKateWin · 03/04/2012 14:09

MrsRotter, no way would I ash a mop head with bedding. I find cat hairs difficult to get off clothes in the washing machine and usually have to tumble dry them to get the hairs off. Even without the hairs, I would not was a mop head with clothes.

pumpkinsweetie · 03/04/2012 14:20

I would be happy my H had actually done some laundry as mine does noneAngry.
It all gets washed in detergent anyway and if its on a high temp cant see any germs being passed. Personally id chuck the mop and buy a new one Wink

GoblersKnob · 03/04/2012 14:23

It will be fine, it's a washing machine, it's for washing stuff, jeez.

Can't believe anyone would throw bedding away beacuse it had been in a washing machine with a mop.
