To expect daughter to look a bit more 'relaxed and scruffy' now she's home from school

Eldest DD back from boarding school this morning for the holidays, and whilst of course I agree that wearing correct and smart uniform is required on the journeys to and from school, surely now she's home she ought to be changing into 'home clothes' or at least relaxing it a bit instead of looking horrendously smart still. We're about to go out shopping and surely she'd be more comfortable?!

Exactly. Maybe she was tired or couldn't be arsed... who cares?

Its a non-argument.

spaghetti my Grammar school was, and still is, like that. Unless they declared it a 'non blazer day' then you had to wear it. It's a state school though.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 31/03/2012 18:34

Spotty I was just about to ask who the chuff 'spaghetti' was, then realised it was me :o I changed out of my winter NN between 2 of my posts :o

SpottyTeacakes · 31/03/2012 19:21

Oops time for a Wine! Your dd was born on the same day as mine, one year later :)

diavlo · 31/03/2012 19:30

Sounds like she may be becoming institutionalised.

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 31/03/2012 19:43

Aaah cool! It's also the day after my birthday :) spent my 20th birthday being 9 days overdue.

Gonna be an expensive weekend this year, my 21st, DD's 1st and fathers day :o

nooka · 31/03/2012 19:57

I've never really understood why parents want their children to take off their school uniforms when they get home anyway. They are just clothes after all. Personally I never took my uniform off after school until it was time to get into pajamas. But then I generally think that school uniform is totally unnecessary, and the rule that children should have to wear their uniform even off school premises seems quite excessive.

SpottyTeacakes · 31/03/2012 20:00

Oh my, that means your birthday is the day after mine creepy......

It's a great month to be born Grin

SpaghettiTwirlerAndProud · 31/03/2012 20:29

Oh yes, June is the best month! I always love the fact it's halfway to christmas :o

When I was younger I always thought it was great that I only had to wait 6 months to get presents again Blush :o

Pandemoniaa · 31/03/2012 20:38

Maybe she's perfectly comfortable in her uniform and would like to relax a bit before getting changed? She's already had a journey home from school and might prefer to just wait until it is time to get in pjs rather than faff around putting other clothes on.

Also, at my boarding school, it was considered desperately uncool to change into mufti (home clothes) after tea every afternoon despite this being allowed. Only the juniors wore mufti and the rest of us slobbed around quite happily in our uniforms till bedtime. It might be that your dd does exactly the same at school and isn't very bothered about being in uniform for a little bit longer today.

MrsBeakman · 31/03/2012 22:15

So did she wear her uniform to go shopping in the end?

localyokel · 01/04/2012 10:04

Pandemoniaa - you're probably right there, I'm not sure that she does either.

Mrs Beakman - she did at least ditch the blazer and put a hoody on, but that was it until bedtime!
