or would sex discrimination and equal rights mean first came first served.

It would be every person for themselves. Chivalry is dead, equal opportunity rules and the strongest win.

mmmdanone · 28/03/2012 22:01

Two words: Costa Concordia Sad

Sootie · 28/03/2012 22:02

It would probably be the captain and the crew first...wait a minute, that DID happen recently didn't it? Wink

Petrean · 28/03/2012 22:04

Well it wasn't REALLY women and children first in 1912 either!

i guess it depends - if the captain were female, presumably she'd be last off.

2shoes · 28/03/2012 22:09

I would hope not, it would be plain wrong

MixedClassBaby · 28/03/2012 22:18

Children before adults I would hope.

hatesponge · 28/03/2012 22:23

Judging by the way I regularly get kicked and elbowed in the scrum for the train home, I think it would seriously be everyone for themselves.

And again if the train is anything to go by, no fucker would move down the lifeboat to let more on either!

Heswall · 28/03/2012 22:28

I also think there would be more third class passengers in those life boats these days, the chav's would fight back. Or maybe not would they be so unfit and pissed/high/suffering from COPD that they wouldn't be a match for the rugby playing/gym bunny mummy first class passengers

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 28/03/2012 22:30

It shouldn't be. Everyone's life is equal, man, woman or child shouldn't matter.

Would our goats be allowed in the lifeboat?

depends where you were - the pigs were saved when the Bounty was sunk Grin

Survival of the best fitted I'm afraid.

bibbityisaporker · 28/03/2012 22:39

Yabu

mayorquimby · 28/03/2012 23:08

I wouldn't be abiding by it anyway tbh.

2shoes · 28/03/2012 23:09

zukiecat omg imagine the threads on Mn

HalfPastWine · 28/03/2012 23:19

It would be everyman for himself imo.

Many many moons ago when I worked as cabin crew we did the usual safety training where we evacuated passengers first however we were told that should the worst ever happen and we jumped ship first so to speak then we wouldn't be judged !

gaelicsheep · 28/03/2012 23:21

God no. Cos that wouldn't be fair to the adults without children would it? They pay their taxes you know. Why should they put themselves out for a child?

Portofino · 28/03/2012 23:23

There would be no third class anymore....

mayorquimby · 28/03/2012 23:24

you may be being facetious gaelicsheep but I certainly wouldn't.
If it were a situation like the recent cruise-ship, then I probably would as I'd have a fighting chance of swimming for it.
If it were the titanic in the middle of a near freezing ocean and not getting on a lifeboat would mean almost certain death I wouldn't be waiting around.

Portofino · 28/03/2012 23:24

At least not on a transatlantic cruise....

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/03/2012 23:29

I went to a Titanic exhibition and we were all given personae as we entered and were told on the way out if we had survived. I was a First Class Lady just like in real life so I knew I was OK. The two children I was with were commoners and both died. As someone said upthread, it wasn't women and children it was all the rich, then poor women and children.

2shoes · 28/03/2012 23:29

my friend (yes I have one) went on a cruise and she said you got assigned life boats. so surely you would just get in that one.

mayorquimby · 28/03/2012 23:31

but wasn't the problem with the recent cruise ship that the manner in which it had run aground meant it had pitched at an angle that a significant number of the life-boats couldn't be launched.

2shoes · 28/03/2012 23:32

ooh
well lets just not go on a cruise then.
anyone for a trip to the seaside?
