To be really pissed off with my friends?

It is my birthday on Saturday and I have tried to arrange a curry night for my friends and I and one by on ethey are dropping out. I am particularly upset with one friend who promised that she would go to a spa day with me but now she has her period and can't (fair enough) but now she can't come out for the meal either as she is staying at her abusive on-off boyfriend's house. Some friends havn't even got back to me.

Looks like I don't have any friends then. Sad

toptramp · 28/03/2012 23:12

Happy Birthday everyone. I am trying to see it in a poitive light; at least I know a couple of days in advance so I can plan an alternative. i just had my heart set on something. Most of the time I end up too drunk anyway on birthdays! Grin

Well I think your friends are daft to miss out on what sounds like a top evening.

Can we all get together and have a virtual online toptramp curry night on Saturday?

ViviPru · 28/03/2012 23:20

One of the Aries, silly

toptramp · 28/03/2012 23:20

I'm an Aries too! Birthday is Friday Grin
have a lovely day - I hope you get to do something nice in the end x

TalcAndTurnips · 28/03/2012 23:22

Vivi - oh, I see!

What's a typical Aries meant to be - I have no idea?

ViviPru · 28/03/2012 23:27

Smart. We are smart (and I don't really go in for all that woo, but still)

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 29/03/2012 06:03

Hmm... can you bereft and unfussed-over Aries ladies on this thread get together instead? Grin

ilikecandyandrunning · 29/03/2012 06:45

We are the best sign in the zodiac! Smart, head-strong and passionate

My dh also adds bossy but what does he know?!

empirepenguin · 29/03/2012 07:05

Sorry you're feeling a bit crap about your birthday celebrations. Have any friends confirmed? Its the start of the Easter break in Scotland so friends with kids can kind of be expected to be distracted if they're in this boat too: holidays, childcare, etc.

It caught my eye that you said you're particular pissed off at best friend as she's with abusive bf instead of you. I understand this too and its a bit of a kick in the teeth when good friends seem to ditch us for shitty men. I often felt personally offended when my good friend with shitty bf made plans with him instead of me... but now I think I'm just really peeved that she's with him at all and there's not a thing I can do to change that (even though he ditches her all the time - I think for his original partner with whom he has a child with, but what do I know :( ). Thing is you can't control her, and you wouldn't want to as this is perhaps what you hate him for. I guess you need to decide what kind of friend you're going to be for her, regardless of this crappy man. You distancing yourself or giving her a hard time could be seen as him winning, i.e. inadvertently abusing your friend further?

Sorry if I'm jumping to conclusions and projecting my feelings onto you, but just thought it might help to aknowledge your earlier question.

Hope you do have a lovely birthday, even if it does turn out to be a bit different than originally planned :)

minibmw2010 · 29/03/2012 07:12

Aries here too, b'day is next Thursday Smile

WMDinthekitchen · 29/03/2012 07:15

Toptramp, hope the day might be better than you think. I have a 0 birthday coming up next week. I have organised a day with an outing the following weekend and a party in the evening. Not everyone likes giving parties but people seem to like coming to them. No-one else would have organised it. My late father often said, 'If you want 'owt done, do it thisself.' If you would like to, and I understand if you would not, PM me and tell me where you are - if you are anywhere near you would be welcome to come to the party.

Chandon · 29/03/2012 07:15

OP, sometimes that just happens. It happens to many of us. It is not about YOU, it is bad alignment of the stars for that day, or fate, or bad luck or whatever. no reflection of how much people like you. Just bad luck.

Then you just either cancel, or get really pissed with the one mate who did come Grin

jamdonut · 29/03/2012 07:22

Birthday Season????

Birthdays are all year round, not just for Easter. Confused

lesley33 · 29/03/2012 07:58

Happy Birthday Tramp! Seriously could some of us not join you? You can pretend we are your fabulously glamorous friends who have flown in from? - don't know where you are so don't know what would make sense!

ipswichwitch · 29/03/2012 08:33

YonWhaleFish · 29/03/2012 08:44

Aries here too, bday on Tues Grin! I had to move my bday drinks to last saturday to accommodate everyone else's events that they'd planned despite knowing it was my bday. Made me feel less than special I tells you!

NorksAreMessy · 29/03/2012 08:46

Hooray, hello fellow Ariesiesies! We are the best of the bunch of the made up woo that I don't believe in :). two weeks today for me, not a big birthday, but it is mine!

I too am sick of having not much fuss made when I hand knit yoghurt and embroider unicorn coats for other people's birthdays.

This year I have made a BIG LIST and told my DH thet I DO want a fuss, please. I would like some presents (list available on request), I WOULD like the DC to make me something thoughtful, I DO want a day off work and I DO want to feel spoiled. Plus I have been low-carbing for EVER so I would like a cake and champagne, because they really WILL be a treat.

AFter 23 years of marriage, I think I have worked out that hints are USELESS! Clear and precise direction is what is needed.

Wonder if it will work?

NorksAreMessy · 29/03/2012 08:47

Where DO you live toptramp. I could eat curry :o

lesley33 · 29/03/2012 08:50

Norks - if I make a big fuss of you would you embroider a unicorn goat for my birthday Grin

ipswichwitch · 29/03/2012 08:52

puts in request for some hand knit youghurt off norks for my bday in aug :)

ipswichwitch · 29/03/2012 08:53

is willing to make huge fuss and present vast cake in return :)
