How the bloody hell else are you supposed to pan or roast something! Winds me up.

pmsl at poor battery reared haggis.

uptoapoint - I didn't know that, but it doesn't surprise me. I tend to eat either in very cheap pub places where I know everything comes from microwave but its a good place to meet friends, or places where I know they are cooking from fresh. If I want a good ready meal I will buy it from Marks and Spencers, rather than pay a lot in a restaurant for it.

StealthPolarBear · 29/03/2012 11:01

You're absolutely right lesley. They don't run round the countryside as they're cooped up in pens, 4ft by 6ft, 3 haggi per pen

LilBlondePessimist · 29/03/2012 11:02

Haggi - v v funny! :)

Bogeyface · 29/03/2012 11:06

You should join PETH Stealth, they do alot of work against battery haggis/haggi (!)

StealthPolarBear · 29/03/2012 11:13

We're not even in Scotland. Poor things are pumped full of additives and shipped off to Iceland to grace party plates.

ClaireFromWork · 29/03/2012 11:13

haggi!

OP posts:
demisemiquaver · 29/03/2012 11:29

I've Always referred to them as Haggi (even if just in my head!).
Actually a lot is being done nowadays to improve their rearing conditions, although much still needs to be done.......

lesley33 · 29/03/2012 11:35

If I set up a "charity" to capaign on behalf of these poor mistreated Haggi and even rescue some - will you all donate some money to me?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/03/2012 11:42

Would we be able to 'adopt' a haggis, lesley? I have an enclosed back garden, so I could adopt one or two, as long as they'd get on with the dogs.

demisemiquaver · 29/03/2012 11:45

what a lovely idea lesley!

lesley33 · 29/03/2012 11:49

Sorry I think you need special conditions and training to keep them healthy. But you can "adopt" a haggis by sending the "charity" some money and I will send you a "photo" of the haggis you have adopted along with details of its name, weight, etc.

Bogeyface · 29/03/2012 11:49

Funnily enough I am in the process of buying a domain name for just that purpose Lesley :o

lesley33 · 29/03/2012 11:51

Bogeyface Hmm

Bogeyface · 29/03/2012 11:52

The thing is, I think you are joking, whereas I am not. I need to get some work done methinks :o

StealthPolarBear · 29/03/2012 11:53

Yes people PLEASE leave haggis rearing to experienced professionals. The haggis rescue near me is overrun with poor animals that were bought as pets by people who had no idea what is involved.

lesley33 · 29/03/2012 11:55

You know bogeyface, you probably could make some money doing this?? Before being prosecuted for fraud of course Grin

ReshapeWhileDamp · 29/03/2012 12:00

Sea Bass is the proper name for a type of fish. Why is that bad?

I thought house parties were parties held in a (large) house (or possibly 'hice' Wink) over a weekend.

Jacket potatoes are potatoes baked in their skins, or jackets. It's a description of what they are, not how they're cooked.

Jus is French, innit?

I agree with loathing pan-fry, though. Bastards. Grin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/03/2012 12:07

I think the beef was with the pan-fried bit of the pan-fried seabass, not the seabass bit, tbh.

And for those people, I would reiterate that you can deep fry as well as pan frying. And I'd forgotten shallowfrying, which is (at least, as far as I know) in a frying pan, but using enough oil for the food to paddle in, rather than just a light coating to the bottom of the pan.

Lesley - I am really sad that I won't be getting a haggis or two to come and live with me - and the dogs are disappointed too - they were looking forward to new playmates. Sad

lesley33 · 29/03/2012 12:10

I'm sure the dogs were looking foward to their new "playmates" Hmm

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/03/2012 12:16

Lesley - you surely cannot be suggesting that my darling doggies would be anything other than gentle and kind to the haggi? For shame! I'll have you know that they are the sweetest, gentlest dogs unless you happen to be a soft toy filled with kapok, in which case your days are numbered!! Grin

lesley33 · 29/03/2012 12:27

Of course not SDT

notforlong · 29/03/2012 14:49

Finest selected, sun ripened, hand picked tomatoes.

Just tomatoes then.

BillBrysonsRucksack · 29/03/2012 14:55

why is it called 'baking' a cake, but 'roasting' meat?

Surely you do the same thing to both - stick them in the oven and switch it on?

Grin
MrsTerryPratchett · 29/03/2012 15:34

Fucking chai tea. It means tea tea. Oh, and panini. Can I have a ham and cheese panini? No, you can't. You can have a ham and cheese panino, because otherwise you are wrong. If you can't get it right, order a sandwich.

Bogeyface · 29/03/2012 16:32

billbryson I have an American friend who calls a roast dinner a baked dinner, and for reason, that REALLY winds me up :D
