to feel angry about this quote I've been given for my DDs party?

Am organising a party for my DD. I am arranging for it to be a chocolate egg/bunny/chick decorating party - as her birthday is very close to Easter. Have found a supplier of the chocolate items. It is a couple and their business is novelty chocolate items & they also do all kinds of chocolate making / decorating parties.
I asked them to supply enough eggs for the party & we discussed icing bags & cellophane bags & decorative items too.
They've sent through the quote. The quote for the chocolate items, whilst on the high side is not unreasonable. The quote for all the other items, is absolutely outrageous.
I presume it is not unreasonable for me to say I'll just stick with the chocolate & forgo the other items. I feel a bit angry, because the charges are so high, it feels like they are trying to rip me off.

Don't understand why anyone would get annoyed at a quote. Confused

Businesses quote. Customers haggle. Or go elsewhere.

Treatment of OAP's after the Budget? Yes, get annoyed.

Quotes for kids birthday parties? Not so much... and shop elsewhere.

I'm so tempted to set up a business on eBay based on the Can't-be-arsed-to-do-it-myself idea...

They can charge what they like and you can accept or decline. It is a very easy one to do, completely yourself, at home-just don't invite too many.

I think maybe it is a bit OTT to be angry about a quote like that. Annoyed - possibly. Taking your business elsewhere - definitely. You tend to find quotes like that come from businesses who don't actually want to do what you're asking them to do so they price it so you go elsewhere. Same reason my hairdresser charges £30 to cut children's hair. He doesn't like doing it, doesn't want to so he charges over the odds so no-one asks him to.

The party sounds fab though. If you want other chocolate shapes than eggs, thorntons have loads which aren't too pricey and I know Cadbury's and Lindt do chocolate bunnies. Depending ont he age though, I would avoid the icing pens as they're pretty much impossible for anyone under 10 to get the icing out of. Small bowls with pre-mixed icing powder work well or disposable icing bags but do seal up the wide end else the icing will all go the wrong way and make a mess. In my experience, giving each child a large paper plate to decorate over also helps keep the cleaning up to a minimum as it catches stray icing and dropped sprinkles etc...

I agree with Blatherskite. Perhaps they had a non business activity on that they would miss for the right income?

I once got a quote for a dance party (not marketed as that but a long time ago & I've forgotten) & the party was reasonable but then the mileage costs for the person was ridiculous for a half hour drive - almost 2 tanks of petrol for my car back then so I figured they didn't really want to come out my way!

Party sounds fun. Definitely do it yourself though especially with the egg prices at the moment. You can get some really funky sprinkles to go on things now :)
