to feel angry about this quote I've been given for my DDs party?

Am organising a party for my DD. I am arranging for it to be a chocolate egg/bunny/chick decorating party - as her birthday is very close to Easter. Have found a supplier of the chocolate items. It is a couple and their business is novelty chocolate items & they also do all kinds of chocolate making / decorating parties.
I asked them to supply enough eggs for the party & we discussed icing bags & cellophane bags & decorative items too.
They've sent through the quote. The quote for the chocolate items, whilst on the high side is not unreasonable. The quote for all the other items, is absolutely outrageous.
I presume it is not unreasonable for me to say I'll just stick with the chocolate & forgo the other items. I feel a bit angry, because the charges are so high, it feels like they are trying to rip me off.

x post with you replying postB.

Cherriesarelovely · 27/03/2012 14:24

Well, clearly you could just go to Lakeland and get it all.....why wouldn't you? Or you could tell them that you think their quote is too high and see if they will do it for less. Are they actually coming and "running" the party for you?

QuickLookBusy · 27/03/2012 14:26

Are the couple doing the chocolate making activity with your DD or are you doing it at your house?

knowitallstrikesagain · 27/03/2012 14:26

Just wanted to help you get things into persective Wink

QuickLookBusy · 27/03/2012 14:27

x posted Cherrie

FamiliesShareGerms · 27/03/2012 14:27

Ok, I don't think they are taking the piss, they are trying to make a living from charging high prices to people who are cash rich but time poor so willing to pay ten times the going rate in Lakeland. If you don't fit their customer profile, you're bound to be a bit Shock at the prices, but it doesn't sound as if it will be too tricky to buy everything you need though, so angry is a bit of an over reaction.

duckdodgers · 27/03/2012 14:27

Fair enough, its just if It was me looking to do this sort of thing the first thing I would have done was look up ebay and take it from there - not ask someone for a quote. The quote was expensive but yes its a business!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 27/03/2012 14:28

Of course YABU!! A quote is exactly that.....if it's too expensive then turn it down!

PostBellumBugsy · 27/03/2012 14:29

No, I'm organising / hosting / being the only adult at the party Cherries. I've replied to the why don't you get it all from Lakeland query already.

I am not annoyed anymore by the quote. I can see I was a mug - whichever way you look at it. Grin

I WILL BE DOING IT ALL MYSELF!

QuickLookBusy · 27/03/2012 14:32

Sorry my typing is awful Blush

bejeezus · 27/03/2012 14:33

why dont you make lots of gingerbread 'eggs' and get them to decorate them with icing and smarties (or summat) shouldnt cost more than £6.50 I reckon!

dont need icing bags!! just bowls of coloured icing-and spoons to slap it all over the place, with

Chubfuddler · 27/03/2012 14:34

Never mind Lakeland, you could get the icing bags and sweets in pound land or wilkos. We did ds an Easter egg hunt in the garden (just him) which cost £2. One bag small chocolate eggs, £1. One very pretty Easter basket £1. Job done.

Flisspaps · 27/03/2012 14:46

Gah, I don't see what's wrong with five friends, pass the parcel, slightly warm cheese sandwiches, brightly coloured fizzy pop and a party bag containing a slice of cake wrapped in kitchen paper, a balloon and a pencil.

Bloody eggs and chocolate wrapped icing bags and hand sourced marshmallow fairy farts.

KurriKurri · 27/03/2012 14:48

I love these threads, it's the way they turn so quickly into "Eggs?? Eggs?? you want to buy eggs; are you mad?? In my day we threw parties for 700 children, bought everything we needed from the pound shop and still had change out of a farthing. You don't know you're born OP' Grin

Good luck with your party PostBellum - it sounds good fun Smile

PostBellumBugsy · 27/03/2012 14:52

Thank you Kurri & Quick for the good wishes for the party. They are much appreciated. Smile

FamiliesShareGerms · 27/03/2012 15:12

Yes, do have fun, sounds a lovely party. Oh, and I recommend the icing pens (can get them in the supermarket) rather than piping bags!

Cherriesarelovely · 27/03/2012 15:18

Glad you have got it sorted. I bet the kids will have a lovely time. I feel like doing something like that for my DD actually, she would love it.

PostBellumBugsy · 27/03/2012 15:22

Aw, thank you. It will be great. I'm looking forward to it and DD is beyond excited!

I'm gonna take my tinsel to where snake lives..lol

marshmallowpies · 27/03/2012 18:29

I think this party sounds like a lot of fun too - I did a chocolate-making workshop at a hen weekend once and it was great fun, and the quantity of chocolate, made by my own fair hand, I got to take away afterwards kept the Marshmallowpies household stocked for days weeks.

As an adult, having an expert chocolate maker run the class was very interesting but for a kid's party I think the more DIY and amateurish it is, the better...much more fun.

With my own DD arriving, hopefully, in a couple of weeks I'm definitely going to pencil in easter egg hunt/decorating as a future party idea, although with my due date coming towards the end of April I might end up missing the Easter dates altogether.

carabos · 27/03/2012 18:40

Shock at snake. A grand to decorate a tree? I'm in the wrong job.

thegreylady · 27/03/2012 18:43

The chocolate egg decorating party sounds great I bet they all have a wonderful time :)

DPrince · 27/03/2012 18:43

Still don't understand why your upset/angry. They quoted, you don't accept. Simple.
