And it makes my teeth itch! I have never met the man, I am a 31 year old woman with a dh and a dc and I am not his bloody "love".

Calm down dear ! Wink

CogitoErgoSometimes · 27/03/2012 10:59

YANBU... You're the customer. Fix the idiot with a grim stare and enunciate 'That's MS ONLY4TONIGHT to you, laddie.'

mamhaf · 27/03/2012 10:59

Yanbu to hate it, yabu not to tell him, and preferably, change estate agent.

Next time he says it, respond sharply "by the way, I am not your love, please call me ...."

Llanbobl · 27/03/2012 11:05

YANBU it drives me mad - you could respond by calling him sweet cheeks, sugar lump, petal or other such sickly and OTT "endearment" every time he calls you love. I do this and find people stop calling me love or duck quite quickly [grumpy old caaahhhh emoticon]

GirlWithALlamaTattoo · 27/03/2012 11:06

He probably can't remember your name.

It would grate on me as well, but if he's otherwise providing a good service I'd put up with it. If not, go elsewhere, there's no shortage of them!

only4tonight · 27/03/2012 11:08

When we meet for the viewings I have arranged I will say something if we like the houses. I won't be able to deal with him if he carries on. He seems a nice enough bloke but "love" has pissed me off since I was a teenager and "hun" is worse unless either are said by a close friend.

OP posts:
only4tonight · 27/03/2012 11:10

Oh I like the passive/aggressive "that's ok sweet cheeks"

OP posts:
IvantaOuiOui · 27/03/2012 11:18

call him "sugar tits". I did that to a man who kept calling me love and hun and he soon stopped.

squoosh · 27/03/2012 11:24

In Glasgow people call you Doll. I quite like it in a James Cagney/Jean Harlow kinda way.

TandB · 27/03/2012 11:28

He's probably on Nethuns...

UntamedShrew · 27/03/2012 11:28

YANBU

And the sugar tits idea is brilliant.

I do enjoy the expression 'makes my teeth itch'. Overheard DT1 (3yo) saying to his twin brother "stop whining DT2, it make mummy's teeth itch"!

only4tonight · 27/03/2012 11:32

I don't know why I have such a bad reaction to it. He probably calls all blokes "mate" or something. But it really makes my skin crawl. I have to say Ms does it too if I have referred to myself as Mrs (or not too long ago Miss). It's like I have told you my name and title but you want to call me something else.

I know I am unreasonable on the Ms thing so I keep my mouth shut and deal with it.

OP posts:
aquashiv · 27/03/2012 11:33

Call him chicken legs back.

only4tonight · 27/03/2012 11:33

Teeth itching is definitely an mnerism. Oh that's a new word too mnerism, I like it.

OP posts:
LadyClariceCannockMonty · 27/03/2012 11:38

Yep, I second/third calling him sweetcheeks or sugartits. Grin

I used to live in Glasgow and loved being called 'doll'. Also 'hen'. But 'love' in this context seems different. Offensive the way those names aren't. probably just because he's an estate agent

Llanbobl · 27/03/2012 11:43

Only4tonight - please tell us if you do call him sweet cheeks or sugar tits and what his reaction is Grin

only4tonight · 27/03/2012 11:54

I have warned dh I may well do this.

OP posts:
Stratters · 27/03/2012 12:03

Just shoot him. Do the world a favour. He's only an estate agent.

saulaboutme · 27/03/2012 12:03

End it...next time he does it look at him and say "stop calling me that" by your look he'll get the the message. no convo about it and he'll realise he's being unprofessional, you're not his "hon" or his "love"

only4tonight · 27/03/2012 12:05

Ah stratters if I were to do that there would be many others in my line of fire first. This tis but a minor irritation in comparison.

OP posts:
saulaboutme · 27/03/2012 12:05

Also WTF he knows your name and title so he should f ing use it. I hate it when people get so firmilar!

fedupofnamechanging · 27/03/2012 12:10

I'd be more upset about all the money he's going to make, from the sale of your house, rather than being called 'love'.

He's not meaning to cause offence, so I wouldn't respond by calling him 'sugar tits'.

Stratters · 27/03/2012 12:12
Anniegetyourgun · 27/03/2012 12:15

"He's not meaning to cause offence, so I wouldn't respond by calling him 'sugar tits'."

Hey, that's an endearment, isn't it? It's not as if anyone suggested she call him Shitface.

ps What's the difference between an estate agent and a herring? One is slimy, has scales and smells funny. The other is a fish.
