men and dishwashers

So I go to bed early to read coursework quite regularly and for some reason this leave DH unable to load the dishwasher, so I come down to dirty drtied up dishes sitting on the side.

Why is this? Can someone please explain this quirk of nature.

Its your man that is the issue...not men per se - sorry.

valiumredhead · 27/03/2012 08:33

Ask him! Mine doesn't.

Pascha · 27/03/2012 08:35

Mine does but i have to redo it. He always puts stuff on top on top of other stuff so it comes out still dirty Confused

Snowboarder · 27/03/2012 08:38

I thought it was going to be about inability to stack the dishes properly. But nope, mine doesn't not bother at all. He is pretty good at everything actually including housework and looking after the children. YABU.

AliceHurled · 27/03/2012 08:40

Having a penis has no correlation with ability to load a dishwasher, no. Hmm

Is he selfish in other ways too?

Scholes34 · 27/03/2012 09:08

My DH knows where the dishwasher is, as dirty dishes are routinely left next to it. I think he overcompensates for his inability to load the dishwasher in his use of the washing machine, iron and ironing board! Swings and roundabouts!

TroublesomeEx · 27/03/2012 09:12

Um, agree with the others.

Men and dishwashers? Might as well say 'Women and cars'.

Your man is the problem, not men in general. Most men don't have a problem with simple things like this.

We don't have a dishwasher, but I walked into the kitchen last night to discover my DH washing up, of his own volition! Can you explain that quirk of nature?

BlingLoving · 27/03/2012 09:12

Haha. DH and I have been arguing about this for ages. And finally, a lightbulb went off in his head. His reasoning was that bringing the mugs etc through was fine, but it was too much effort to then put them in the dishwasher. While to me, if you're holding the damn cup in your hand anyway, then putting it in the dishwasher is no extra work whatsoever.

On the other hand, DH still hasn't trained me to stop leaving all the cupboards and drawers open in both our room and DS's Blush. I try but somehow, it just seems such a hassle.

princessofpersians · 27/03/2012 09:13

My DH seems incapable of loading the dishwasher and prefers to stack the dirty dishes net to it instead. I should think myself as lucky though as he did buy ME the dishwasher - a fact he's very proud of Hmm

Its a good thing I love him for his other virtues

OnlyWantsOneTwoAndThree · 27/03/2012 09:14

I don't pack ours. DP does it. As i don't pack it properly Hmm and now leave it to him which he secretly enjoys

CandiceMariePratt · 27/03/2012 09:15

My DH doesn't like to put anything in the dishwasher because he says it will wear the door out if it gets opened too often!

supernannyisace · 27/03/2012 09:16

only

Same here ;)

I don't try too hard to learn either - it is less work for me that way!

pinkdelight · 27/03/2012 09:20

Definitely not a man thing. My DH would feel your pain. We moved recently and I still haven't learnt how to use the new dishwasher yet. My poor DH.

How would he get me to change? By not doing it, I guess. But whether he could stand the mess until I finally got my finger out, I dunno.

What are you going to do?

SunRaysthruClouds · 27/03/2012 09:21

OP I think it is all about how people (not men particularly) are brought up.

So if you have children now or in the future you need to teach them (and your H) just to do stuff that needs doing. And you will have done your bit for future generations.

mum2twoloudbabies · 27/03/2012 09:22

Grin at candice. I was having this exact discussion with my mum yesterday, my dad and dh both put dirty dishes on the side above the dishwasher but never think to put them inside despite nagging, sarcastic digs and outright telling them to do it. I have given up! He's good with a Hoover so that will have to do.

NakedButNotFamous · 27/03/2012 09:22

My DH always loads the dishwasher because I am hopeless at it. He seems to fit in twice as much dishes in it than i do

Mrsjay · 27/03/2012 09:25

MY dh is actually very good at loading the dishwasher Hes a bit Anal about it Hmm , Its not all men maybe some think its beneath them , although mine wouldnt think of picking up his clothes untill they trip him up , but thats not a man thing thats a lazy thing ,

Dh seems to get more into the dishwasher than i do , he works it all out I just bung it in then on Grin

TunipTheVegemal · 27/03/2012 09:31

I think you need to extract an outright commitment before you go to bed. 'I'm off to bed, can I leave you to do the dishwasher?'

moonbells · 27/03/2012 09:37

my DH does all the dishwasher stacking and about 2/3 of the laundry (including hanging up to dry afterwards) so I don't mind so much that he's allergic to hoovering or cleaning the loo! I think 50/50 splits of each task works much worse than someone picking the jobs they don't mind. I hate cold congealed food on plates so am grateful that DH does the stacking.
mum2twoloudbabies I think we have reverse DHs! Grin

RachelWalsh · 27/03/2012 09:38

Nothing to do with being male. My dh is just as able to load the dishwasher as me, along with all the other household tasks which we share.

PastGrace · 27/03/2012 09:45

My DP is a bit obsessive about things being clean. I find unloading the clean things very tedious, so I selflessly load the dirty plates into the dishwasher/dirty clothes into the washing machine and he unloads the two. Last night I got ready for bed and he had a little go at me taking forever in the bathroom. He was still on his computer "just waiting for it to shut down" (on the internet? not going to make it any quicker) and both machines still full of clean things, leaving no underwear for today and no breakfast stuff accessible. I don't mind him leaving it, but I do mind him leaving it then having a go and me for being too slow.

I finally made him do some ironing the other week (he's so bad it's painful and I normally crack and do it for him). He had 6 shirts, 5 t shirts, 3 pairs of trousers and 7 jumpers. Looked hopefully at the pile and said "about...10 minutes?"

Yeah DP. 10 minutes. For your entire wardrobe.

nizlopi · 27/03/2012 09:47

My husband is fine at loading the dishwasher... perhaps he's a freak of nature?

KatAndKit · 27/03/2012 10:17

Mine thinks he is better at doing it than me. He can jigsaw puzzle more things in than I can. So in his case owning a penis has not prevented him from operating the dishwasher.

As a general rule I prefer having this as one of my "jobs" as you can sit back while the machine does all the washing up for you.
