To sometimes wonder if ALDI post threads here?

Have noticed over the year I have been here that there are a lot of threads about how good ALDI is and what are your favourite ALDI products. I have even posted on these sometimes myself. But it does seem to come up so frequently I do wonder whether sometimes they are actually posted by someone from ALDI? AIBU in thinking this?

Aldi nappies are Brill!

Diamondgirls · 26/03/2012 11:21

I've never even been to aldi. (it's not local) What's so great about it?

Theas18 · 26/03/2012 11:21

YABU!!

Those threads are about all over the net on the parenting forums and often on the MSE forums I frequent.

I'm a card carrying ALDI convert. There is very little from there isn't very acceptable or even better than the usual stuff, and only about 2 or 3 things I've tried and not been able to use (why oh why did they change to poo flavoured decaf coffee?? is was nice!)

ComposHat · 26/03/2012 11:21

Their ground coffee can't be knocked. Their cycling gear is great for the money.

I've been using their washing detergent which seems really effective too!

Oh yeah, I was shopping there before it was credit-crunch trendy as well, cos I was a failure in the boom too.

You are obviously both ALDI moles Hmm

I actually love ALDI too - but there are a lot of threads.

So good I posted it twice!

Theas18 · 26/03/2012 11:25

Diamondgirls- it's shopping. OK with less choice but very cheaply and generally better than basics type supermarket brands.

Less choice- I don't care- if I want strawberry jam then I don't need seedless/low sugar/high fruit type options I want a nice fruity jam at a good price. ALDI has that and it's as fruity and lovely as the premium continental stylee ones in tescos.

Small store- I can shop for 4-5 people in 20mins and and I'll spend £40-70 depending on if I'm stocking up meat/frozen stuff.

Oh and it's much more personal- small store= same people on the till. That's nice.

Theas18 · 26/03/2012 11:26

hmm wonder if I should approach Aldi about being paid as a moleWink

DottyDot · 26/03/2012 11:29

Aldi's fab and I'm definitely not an Aldi mole! Grin

We started using them a few months ago and our shopping bills almost halved. We still use Tesco for the odd thing that we can't wean ds's off, plus dp also insists on buying posh free range ham and other meat that Aldi don't do free range from Tesco, but even with that our bills are much lower so it means we can get petrol every week and come within what we used to spend just on food alone iyswim.

So, hurrah for Aldi - as long as their prices don't start creeping up... Hmm

LoonyRationalist · 26/03/2012 11:36

Just to balance things up I am as evangelical about Lidl as I am about Aldi. I too would be open to recognition from Aldi though ;)

Sudaname · 26/03/2012 11:36

Yep and l went and bought their £3.79 beauty serum which was voted best one by a survey and beat the famous no.7 Boots one at £21 and was raved about on here and it is fantastic - l now dont look any different just £17 better off look at least 20 years younger.Grin

(seriously though folks it is just as good and is lovely to use)

theworldaccordingtome · 26/03/2012 12:05

I HATE ALDI with a passion. Yes it is cheap but with most things you get what you pay for. Made the mistake of giving it another chance yesterday (after reading so many MNers praise it) and left all Angry. Rude, poorly informed staff, terrible store layout with things not in a sensible place, crap quality chocolate, crap choice of sandwiches, other people's kids running riot (yes I know you get this in all supermarkets but I am giving an overview of yesterday's experience), all in all complete pants.

DinahMoHum · 26/03/2012 12:17

i

glastocat · 26/03/2012 12:31

You're kidding about the crap chocolate, right? Aldi choc is divine!

I also love Aldi.

LoonyRationalist · 26/03/2012 12:32

Theworldaccordingtome - if I wanted to pay through the nose for a high level of customer service & shiny stores I'd go to Waitrose or M&S;)

Can't comment on sandwiches as I never buy them as they are hateful anywhere pre packed.
As it is Aldi staff are efficient (I love anyone who can scan faster than I can pack) You can get badly behaved children anywhere (even Waitrose) & I disagree with the chocolate!

FoofFighter · 26/03/2012 12:33

my Aldi now has

Baskets!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[happydance]

lesley33 · 26/03/2012 12:35

Foof I am so jealous. This is the only thing I hate about ALDI.

TheRhubarb · 26/03/2012 12:35

Just to be different - it's shit.

Only one person ever on the till.
The meat is full of water and fat.
There's no point buying if you only have a small family as most of the stuff is sold in bulk.
Don't even touch the electrical stuff, it'll only break.
Our neighbours get the kids and stuff presents from Aldi all the time. It's a lovely thought but tbh the kids toys are just naff and I wouldn't rate the food either. You'd have to buy your meat and fish elsewhere and stock up on fruit and veg only at Aldi.
Oh and the wine is also shit.

We have tried shopping at Aldi but have found that it's cheap for a reason.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 26/03/2012 12:41

I want an Aldi now

We only have a small, crap Lidl and then the Tesco's/Morrison's combo.

glastocat · 26/03/2012 12:42

I am beginning to wonder if Aldi UK is worse than Aldi Ireland, as I dont have any of the problems above. I have bought many electrical items with no breakages, the meat is Irish so excellent. Fruit and veg is fab and a quarter of the price if its on Super Six. And I have a small family (one husband, one kid) and have no issues with big packs at all, all sizes are available. Mind you, I alternate with a 'normal' supermarket so I get the best of both worlds. And I go to M&S for the meal deals. Bit of a supermarket tart me. Grin

tots2ten · 26/03/2012 12:44

My local Aldi (which I can just about see from my front door) also now have BASKETS Grin

emsyj · 26/03/2012 12:46

The quality must vary from area to area TheRhubarb as I find the meat in our local Aldi (well, the 3 that I use regularly - they are slowly taking over my area...) very very good - and everything else too.

I wish they would stop selling those chocolate brioche rolls though - I can't stop eating them once I start. Must stop buying them Sad.

FoofFighter · 26/03/2012 12:47

Lesley, but they don't allow you to take them through the checkouts which is rather mean and you still then have to cram it all into your arms or bags quickly and scoot to the side and hope you don't drop it before you can sort it properly. Mind you if it bothered me that much i'd get a trolley, but i never do, and then moan Blush
