DH thinks I was being unreasonable in planning a roast chicken dinner without either Yorkshires or stuffing. Was I?

Tell him to make them. Thats that problem sorted!

NettoSuperstar · 25/03/2012 18:40

Yes, very.
All roasts need yorkshires and chicken definitely needs stuffing.

BackforGood · 25/03/2012 18:42

Well, traditionally, Yorkshires go with beef (although I love them and would do with any roast dinner) - so you can probably get away with that one, but you ought to have stuffing with a roast chicken. Sorry! Grin

topshelfrita · 25/03/2012 18:42

YANBU Yorkshires and/or stuffing are just a way of stretching the meat so it serves more people. If you've got enough meat, you don't need the other bits. HOWEVER, stuffing is a pile of gorgeousness, to quote the Divine Nigella. As for Yorkshires well, OK I suppose but to me they mean beef and only beef. If it's not too late you cld cook stuffing in a separate tin.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 25/03/2012 18:44

Sunday roasts have to have the following as a bare minimum:

meat
roasters
veg (at least 2 types!)
stuffing
yorkies
gravy
(mash optional)

I also have mustard, apple sauce, and mint sauce on every roast regardless of which meat :)

Ineedacleaneriamalazyslattern · 25/03/2012 18:44

If it's a full roast dinner and not chicken with salad then yep sorry you at the very least need stuffing for chicken and ad I love Yorkies so much they get made with every roast.

Winkly · 25/03/2012 18:44

Surprised to discover how unreasonable I was being!

I had time, I made stuffing. Yes I did do mash, I'm not keen on roast potatoes.

Shock my DS (12 yo) would leave home if he didn't have Yorkshire Puddings.

What about gravey- surely you had gravey?

And not that watery chicken and vegetable juice that Delia thought "would do" in her Waitrose advert.

NettoSuperstar · 25/03/2012 18:47

Not keen on roast potatoes?
You're joking right?Shock

landofsoapandglory · 25/03/2012 18:54

I always do Yorkshires with a roast, and stuffing with chicken. It has to have roast potatoes, too.

Couldn't be arsed today, we had curry and a 99er from the ice cream van for afters!

Pandemoniaa · 25/03/2012 19:04

Disappoint would permeate this house is anyone roasted a chicken and served it with mash and minus Yorkshire puddings.

WitchOfEndor · 25/03/2012 19:06

Don't like stuffing or Yorkshire puddings so YANBU, if he wants them let him make them!

SardineQueen · 25/03/2012 19:12

Gravy optional? Shock
I've heard it all now.

JustHecate · 25/03/2012 19:14

If he really wants them, he has the option to sort it out himself.

TheFallenMadonna · 25/03/2012 19:16

I love roast chicken and mashed potatoes.

I did roast chicken and couscous last week...

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 25/03/2012 19:17

YANBU. Yorkshires are for beef. I made some last week to go with pork (I mean, sausages are mainly pork and toad in the hole is hardly radical), and it caused a minor outrage. Chicken and Yorkshires is just plain weird.

I do sometimes buy packet stuffing as a guilty pleasure, but for the most part, nah.

WandaDoff · 25/03/2012 19:19

I wouldn't count it as a roast without roast potatoes.

All roast dinners must have roast potatoes in my opinion. Otherwise it's just chicken & veg.

The stuffing & yorkies are optional but I think, essential.

Iwantcandy · 25/03/2012 19:19

YANBU. Can I come round for some please? We are having roasted vegetable pasta (ie using up the old veg). Yours sounds better Wink

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 25/03/2012 19:19

I was going to say YANBU for the lack of yorkshires or the lack of stuffing, but there is no helping you if there were no roast potatoes too. What you had was just dinner, not a roast.

happyhorse · 25/03/2012 19:19

YABU. Yorkies and stuffing are compulsory elements of a roast regardless of what meat you have. It's not Sunday Dinner if it's just chicken, potatoes and veg.

McHappyPants2012 · 25/03/2012 19:21

Don't like beef, so have Yorkshire with chicken ( you can buy Yorkshire pudding for chicken lol )

YouChangeWithTheWeather · 25/03/2012 19:21

That's not a roast dinner - it's a roast chicken with sides Shock

Roast dinner has roast meat, roast tatties, 3 veg, gravy. Apple or bread sauce dep. on meat. Yorkshires if I remember. Pudding with custard after.

happyhorse · 25/03/2012 19:21

Mash?

Mash?

I hadn't read that far when I first posted. You are a very unreasonable woman.

nobutyeahbut · 25/03/2012 19:22

YABU I have had a roast (Chicken) with 2 dd's today we had 3 yorkshires each!

There would be uproar in my house if i didn't do yorkshires.

Only do stuffing when dh is in though as he's the only one that likes it.
