Shut the hell up in the morning?
Well I wouldn't say it in those exact words!
Friday is my one day where I should get a lie in, but im continuously woken up my next doors four DC screaming at the top of their voices in the room next to mine. Its ok for their parents there bedroom is on the third floor of the house so they can ignore there childrens screams. My DB manges to get up, get dressed, have a wash, take him self down stairs and wash tv below my room without me hearing a peep :)
Where as I have to listen to them for over an hour starting from 7 :(
Monday-Thursday im up at 6 for work, so it would be nice to be able to sleep till at least 8 on a friday.
Am I being unreasonable?

I suppose you could always bring it to the attention of their parents.

To be fair, your brother is only one child and not 4 sharing a room.

themightyfandango · 23/03/2012 11:40

YANBU however as the parent of 3 boys I have yet to discover a foolproof way of getting through a morning without anyone screaming, shouting or fighting.

If you find a way please do tell me Grin

Earplugs?

Ear plugs?

We had problems when in a previous house where the neighbouring house was rented out to a German family. The children (about 6 and 8 ?) went to school locally. We couldn't believe how often we were woken up at about 11.30pm by their going-to-bed antics. I still don't know how they could function properly at school with that little sleep.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 23/03/2012 11:50

He washes the TV? he is well trained! Wink

Id recommend earplugs, it's probably what their parents use!

chocolatebuttin22 · 23/03/2012 12:04

haha he watches the TV lol.
They don't all share a room, they have a 5 bedroom semi- detached house , with two very large living rooms. As far as I am aware the eldest has his own room who is 9 or 10, the one that I hear screaming the most, and I think should really know better. Then they have two girls 8 and 6 I think and then a toddler.
I totally understand with four children under the age of 10, it can get noisy but screaming at the top of there voices for an hour is not neccassary.

if you're on good terms I'd be inclined to make some sort of friendly 'wow your DC are lively in the morning' comment as chances are they are immunedon't even realise they are even being that noisy. Generally though I would say household noise is generally acceptable after 7 in the week but definitely not on Saturday or Sunday.

JosieZ · 23/03/2012 15:10

There is a risk noise gets worse if parents lecture them about disturbing poor mrs X next door.

Get a blow up mattress and sleep elsewhere on a Thurs night (they are very comfy).

kids next door will soon be approaching teenager phase and then won't rise before they have to.

valiumredhead · 23/03/2012 15:52

7 is normal getting up time for school kids. I think you should invest in some ear plugs first and see if they help.

SoupDragon · 23/03/2012 15:53

It's 7am on a weekday.

Get earplugs.

ajandjjmum · 23/03/2012 15:59

Why not joke with the parents and ask if their children would be open to bribery, to stay quiet on Friday mornings. Said with a smile, and infront of the children - together with your reason why - it might work?

BsshBossh · 23/03/2012 20:06

Noise from DC at 7am on a school day is very normal. If I were you I'd sleep elsewhere on Thursday nights or invest in earplugs.

MrsMcEnroe · 23/03/2012 20:08

I don't think 7am is unreasonable actually. Don't noise control regulations specify no noisy roadworks etc between 11pm and 7am?

I agree re. earplugs. If you get the yellow squidgy ones you should be OK.

However I do feel for you!

rhondajean · 23/03/2012 20:10

Are you therefore in the other five bedroom semi attached to theirs? Can you not sleep in another part of it?

callmemrs · 23/03/2012 20:12

7am isn't early. Tbh I would stick some headphones in and doze peacefully for the next hour, feeling bloody thankful for not having to get up early every day of the week

kiwimumof2boys · 24/03/2012 08:22

Make sure you make plenty of noise on days when you have to get up at 6.
And buy god earplugs. Are they noisy on the weekend mornings ?

DoubleGlazing · 24/03/2012 08:49

YABU

cornsilksit1 · 24/03/2012 08:51

children are allowed to make noise in their own home Hmm

ripsishere · 24/03/2012 08:51

I think YABU too. It's a normal getting up for school time.

ajandjjmum · 25/03/2012 19:35

The OP said that the children are screaming at the top of their voices. To my mind that is more than 'normal getting ready for school' noise.

ajandjjmum · 25/03/2012 19:35

Should have said, in our house it would have been me screaming! Grin

molepom · 25/03/2012 19:46

YABU

Either get some ear plugs or get over yourself, kids can make noise in their own house if they want even if it is about an HOUR before they leave for the rest of the day.

MotherOfSuburbia · 25/03/2012 19:53

Until I saw you say 5 bed semi , I thought you might be talking about me!
My children rise early and I have a constant battle trying to keep the noise down, especially on Sundays when I feel the neighbours really deserve a rest.

fedupofnamechanging · 25/03/2012 19:53

Possibly they don't realise quite how loud they are - when you have 4, you tend to become a bit immune to noise and it's only when they are quiet that you realise just how loud they were. On their own, they are not too lud, but the cumulative effect can be very noisy.

If they are friendly, you could ask if they would mind keeping it down a bit, but tbh, I don't fancy your chances. Maybe play some very loud music with the speakers against the wall and a nice thumping bass when the parents are asleep, so they get some idea of how the sound travels Grin
