AIBU to think if the cut off point for child benefits was £100k then there would still be people here complaining and figuring out ways to still claim it??

cos I'm fed up reading of people saying they can't cope and should their dh get pain 49999.99 instead if 50k? or should they just lie on the forms?

I know its unfair in the aspect that its not based on household income, but 50k limit seems ok, people moaning just sound greedy

MrsHeffley, you are a hoot

you say you shan't loose sleep over people with a" me me me attitude", yet your first post here included this little gem

"£50 isn't a massive amount more than many on benefits. Many don't know the realities of living on £50K with absolutely no benefits, massive mortgage."

and another cracker "The rich got their 50p tax thing, the lowest get looked after and oaps get their pension increased but the middle yet again get squeezed."

can you care to tell me how the lowest get "looked after"? I'm sure many struggling on minimum wage would love to hear they are being looked after

I could lift many quotes from your posts but those 2 will do for starters

my heart bleeds for you, you obviously feel very hard done by Hmm

Personal tax threshold will go up ssd

hwjm1945 · 23/03/2012 20:22

i am lawer rate taxpayer, DP is higher rate, we are in London, we will lose all CB. That is fine, we were saving it each month anyway, so I cannot say we "need" it. But, I find the the fact that if I calim my partner will have to fill in a tax returmn and effectively account for what I have had a bit unsettling -we are not amrried - we do not get Inheritance tax exemptions or capital gains exemptions etc - as if I am his repsonsibility. I would prefer to see all paretns given an extra tax free allowance. What about those women whose higher rate taxpaying partners keep them short of case - how will it work for them?

Don't know what the answer is - wherever you make the cut, there will be those who feel aggrieved

DamnBamboo · 23/03/2012 20:22

Is it 10K soon, I think.
That will help some.
But they're dropping the theshold for higher rate taxpayers so the "squeezed middle" don't gain from this, and they will also lose CB

DamnBamboo · 23/03/2012 20:23

It's a good point hwjm.

Is that how this will be implemented?

MrsHeffley · 23/03/2012 20:25

Those on minimum wage get tax credits fir starters, free school dinners, social housing.....

By me,me,me tI mean the very posters lambasting those hardly rich loosing £20- £50 a week are insisting they need unlimited welfare and more of it ie you can't moan about loosing your only benefit but we can moan about not getting more benefits which you can pay a hell of a lot more towards through a higher tax band.

ssd · 23/03/2012 20:25

that affects everyone damnbamboo

OP posts:
hwjm1945 · 23/03/2012 20:26

apparently so. I just don't like the idea of the "little woman" being given "pin money" that high earning hubby then has to account for. I have seen women who have no say in family finances cos they are not working and I just think this makes it worse for those in that kind of relationship. CB was always paid to the mother for this sort of reason

DamnBamboo · 23/03/2012 20:27

What affects everyone?

If the personal threshold goes up and you are a lower rate taxpayer you will get more money.

If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you won't because the higher rate has been dropped to wipe out any gain in personal allowance.

Am I missing something here?

MrsHeffley · 23/03/2012 20:27

And yes your tax threshold is going up,we on the other hand will be paying more as the higher tax band has come down-so add tax threshold to the list.

ssd · 23/03/2012 20:31

I get minimum wage and we earn £20 per week too much to get free school dinners, social housing, help with council tax, etc. we get £34 per week tax credits

don't imagine everyone on low wages gets helped, free housing, school dinners etc

some of us pay mortgages/cars/all bills/food/kids clubs/fares to work etc etc.... SAME as those on £50k...BUT on £25k instead

then we have to read here about the HR tax payers moaning about missing 50 quid a week.........

as I said before, my heart bleeds

OP posts:
MrsHeffley · 23/03/2012 20:31

So basically there is now £6K between somebody on max benefits(not paying a penny in tax) and the higher tax band-it's a joke!6K!!!!!!

ssd · 23/03/2012 20:33

how do you work that out??

OP posts:
Starwisher · 23/03/2012 20:33

I'm really fed up of this

we are all parents, we all know the cost of living is getting out of control, none of know each others outgoings lets stop attacking each other and stick together and support each other

It terms of saying I live on less, so should you, its just not that black and white

Eg
It's no good someone in their 50s telling someone in their 20s that they only live on 30k and 50k is loads ,because with the greatest respect you probably paid a huge amount less for your home and do not have the same mortgage payments
I'm sick of all this divisiveness.

And before someone starts, we are not rich we have no income at all right now! Zilch

Just stop turning on each other and support each other in these frankly dreadful times

Hecubasdaughter · 23/03/2012 20:35

MrsHeffley if you are a HR taxpayer I can assure you that you earn a lot more than 6K more than me.

DamnBamboo · 23/03/2012 20:35

You haven't acknowledged my previous post to you SSD.

Many people are going to get dragged into higher rate band as well as well as those who will lose CB.

My heart doesn't bleed for you either really; you sound bitter and jealous that you don't earn more.

I will lose CB and don't give a shit quite frankly!

MrsHeffley · 23/03/2012 20:36

So how much (tax free)tax credits are you getting a year?Add that to your £25K a year along with your child benefit a year. Then add on the less tax you pay due to somebody on £50K paying a lot more tax due to being in the tax band.

Would be interested to hear what the masseeeeve difference is between £50K and your complete income.

MrsHeffley · 23/03/2012 20:37

To ssd

happyinherts · 23/03/2012 20:39

MrsHeffley - people on minimum wage do NOT get free school meals as you cant qualify for them if you're working. They do NOT get social housing as there isn't enough social housing available. Some might qualify for housing benefit, which is paid to landlord not them. People on minimum wage DO have transport costs, work related costs too.

A lot of working families with incomes under £20 teenagers lost £30 EMA per week, so they've had their share of cuts.

Hecubasdaughter · 23/03/2012 20:40

OK MrsHeffley MY wages +HB+CTB+CB = £8054. Now I know tax is high but I don't think it brings down your take home pay to £14054 does it? We get no tax credits, no free school meals etc. Yes I pay less tax than you because I don'r have the money in the first place.

DamnBamboo · 23/03/2012 20:40

The thing is, this them and us attitude is so shitty!

It's counterproductive and divisive!

Hecubasdaughter · 23/03/2012 20:41

Still think I get £25K a year not a chance, I wish.

nancy75 · 23/03/2012 20:42

Hecubasdaughter - why don't you get tax credits? you are entiltled to it on that wage

DamnBamboo · 23/03/2012 20:42

Hec have you sorted out the fact that they won't acknowledge your second child and had them amend your records so it changes what you're entitled too (read this on another thread but never commented).

How the hell do you live on that?

Do you pay rent? Where do you live?

Hecubasdaughter · 23/03/2012 20:43

Mrsheffaly I don't begrusge you or other higher earners earning your money but please stop kicking people like me when we are down. It's insulting, quite frankly scraping a living is degrading enough. Having no hope of a future or of giving my DC a future is depressing enough without accusations of entitlement etc flying at me.

I must apologise that figure above also includes my DH's CBJSA which will expire in June.
