To really appreciate the non fluffyness of MN?

In comparison to another parenting forum I am a member of - I really like the way that MN is not all walking on eggshells-like.

Maybe I´m just bitchy - but surely no-one is as sweetness and light as all that "hun" and "bless you" from Other Forums would lead us to believe?

According to a few NetHuns your DPs will leave you now because you are prudish and withholding sex Hmm

gingerfrizz · 22/03/2012 20:58

I agree Coconutty; Nm is so fluffy and shite

TiggyD · 22/03/2012 21:12

Which is best?

There's only one way to find out...

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 22/03/2012 21:14

horses for courses, innit? if netmums is so sappy i never understand the appeal of going for its jugular, just let them be.

SecretNutellaFix · 22/03/2012 21:15

Let's just have a nice relaxing few days after the shitstorm HQ are recovering before we start WW3,445 with other fora.

Please?

Besides, it is not necessarily the one that is the reversal of our syllables. There is the coconut chocolate bar as well.

TiggyD · 22/03/2012 21:18

Bounty.Com? What coconut related site?

To be fair, the majority were sort of "meh - do what you like". Personally I found that more rational than the MN FWR thread frothing.

IMO what NM misses is frankness of delivery of unwelcome stuff.

And the frigging sparklies.

TiggyD · 22/03/2012 21:19

Ooh, I guessed right!

I've looked at that other site a couple of times, but it hurts my eyes. It's pretty - something I've never been and now I'm an old gimmer I'm not likely to become.

MN is feisty. I'd like to become feisty in my old(er) age, and where else am I going to learn how to do that?

DaisyAndConfused · 22/03/2012 22:02

Just looked at the other site for the first time.

Their smiley faces move and dance and everything!

I've had to rinse my eyeballs in gin to get rid of the over-cutesy-ness.

I like the straight talking here, it only rarely spills over into nastiness.

I don't read AIBU that much - is that where it mostly gets shouty?

I was amazed at a full-on row about controlled crying a few weeks ago and I think I caused a man to flounce off the feminist board but I was nice to him, I promise!

The infant formula forums can be erm, interesting...

You know, the ones run by formula companies for marketing purposes, not the sub-sections on weaning.

TBh i did like it and made a few NM friends and had laughs and good discussions and chats , I just found it too supportive and everybody was judgemental , where that was rubbish people just have opinions ,

JosieZ · 22/03/2012 23:44

Things get shouty when something is said which tweaks emotions in you rather than being something you just disagree with. Things that tweak your emotions can be stuff that has happened in your childhood or past which still churns strong emotions eg failed breast feeding views on head-teachers, attitudes to diet or weight.

So people being shouty with me makes me calmly wonder what went on in their lives to upset them so much unless it's something that tweaks me and then I get veery fecckkkingg aaannnnnnggggrrryyy and shooouut backkkk.

CaramelisedOnion · 22/03/2012 23:45

"Drop a Netmummer and a Musnetter in the woods somewhere and come back an hour later. The Netmummer would be in a daze because there was no phone signal or because she had heard a bug in the trees somewhere. The Mumsnetter would have killed a deer by squeezing it to death between her thighs, cleaned it, cooked it with a selection of NON organic vegetables, and would be scratching her arse with an antler."

HILARIOUS! and probably accurate into the bargain!

I think it's fine to have opinions but I do wonder why certain posters have to be so dogmatic and aggressive as their starting point on every thread on certain topics.

I really hope these people do not talk to people in RL like that. In fact, I'm almost certain that they don't so maybe they just come on here to let off steam after spending the day being diplomatic about said issues, but if they want to win over hearts and minds, they're probably going about it the wrong way

CaramelisedOnion · 22/03/2012 23:55

incidentally - i was not referring to NM! but that´s a cutefest also i see!
