Urgent - WWBU to ask them to move their camper can out of our driveway

Strange situation - woke this morning to find a camper van parked at the end of our driveway. There's a note in the window with an apology saying that they are sorry to park there but they arrived late etc etc. it's a battered old thing with an Irish number plate. Do we give them the benefit of the doubt and think they'll be gone in the next hour or do we ask them to leave and risk creating a bad situation? I'm in the 'get off my land!' way of thinking but DH wants to give them an hour in case it is genuinely just a case of someone about to fall asleep and pulling into the nearest safe place. I would have thought if that was the case they would have moved on after a short nap though!

Actually, if they thought they were visiting, they would have parked up by your house instead.

pictish · 22/03/2012 09:12

I wouldn't give a toss about a one off...especially as there is a note.

bumbleymummy · 22/03/2012 09:13

Don't tell me things like that helium!

bumbleymummy · 22/03/2012 09:16

Really not happy about the idea of leaving them there all morning! Seriously, you would let someone park in your driveway all morning?

Sorry - if they're not blocking your exit and your drive is long, just leave them. They'll move off later today, I'm sure. If it was me, I'd be offering them a cup of tea and a bacon roll.

I don't think it's anything to worry about.

squeakytoy · 22/03/2012 09:19

are you actually blocked into your house? if not, then I wouldnt get too concerned about it...

AgentProvocateur · 22/03/2012 09:19

Yes, I would if they weren't causing an obstruction. Why wouldn't you? I've let people camp in mine before - I met them late in the city centre and they couldn't find a site, do they came and camped at mine. Gave them hot baths etc, and we're still in touch.

AliceHurled · 22/03/2012 09:21

Yes I would. I still don't get the problem.

bumbleymummy · 22/03/2012 09:21

I don't really fancy setting up a campsite at the end of our lane so I don't think I'll bother with the tea and bacon sarnies!

I think we need a diagram of the driveway.

bumbleymummy · 22/03/2012 09:24

PM me your address Alice and we'll be sure to stop by next time we're over :) I prefer peppermint tea and I don't eat bacon so a piece of toast will do fine :)

If it is out of your way and not on your doorstep, I would leave it. I would knock around midday and ask if they need directions.

bumbleymummy · 22/03/2012 09:26

Timewasting - sorry if it's confusing! The entrance to the driveway leads on to an S bend and then goes in to a long straight. They've pulled in through the entrance and parked off the gravel on the grass at the edge of the first loop.

upahill · 22/03/2012 09:26

OK maybe I am soft but yes I would let them stop.
I would like to be treated kindly and would give people the benfit of the doubt unless there were serious red flags!! Here they left a note saying it was late.
They appear to be by themselves. You know your area but if there is no reason for them to stay I would be guessing they will be moving on once they are sorted.

bumbleymummy · 22/03/2012 09:28

Is there any particular reason why I should allow someone to get 8 hours sleep at the bottom of our drive? There is a big parking bay that long distance lorry drivers use about a mile up the road!

AliceHurled · 22/03/2012 09:29

But they were passing, it was late, they pulled in. I don't think it was a planned thing to target your drive. I'm not suggesting you set up a campsite in your drive, neither would I, but a passerby in need, what on earth is the problem? Why make life so difficult?

Voidka · 22/03/2012 09:29

They left you a note to say they arrived late - they are probably sleeping and when they wake up they will move.

squeakytoy · 22/03/2012 09:29

presumably they were tired, did not have a crystal ball, and did not know there was a parking bay a mile up the road...

AliceHurled · 22/03/2012 09:30

Oh there's extra info to drip feed. Excellent. You enjoy yourself.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 22/03/2012 09:30

Is there any particular reason?

Not really, apart from human kindness and compassion.

Is there any reason you should not allow it? Other than you just dont want to?

pictish · 22/03/2012 09:31

Is there any particular reason why you should let someone get eight hours sleep on your drive?

How about because they are not doing any harm? Or because you are generous person who isn't hung up on mine mine mine?

They'll be gone soon enough.

upahill · 22/03/2012 09:32

If that was me I would feel intimated at a big lorry car park tbh.

Maybe they didn't know about it - how would I know? I'm only going of info you are giving us but blimey, come on! If you can be kind why not?
