to be irritated by character at interview today.

Had an interview at a school today, which I was really pleased about. Part of the interview comprised of a guided tour by some children and the deputy head. There were five candidates - 4 women and a man. The man may have been the most irritating person I've ever met! During the tour he almost physically forced himself to the front in order to walk in step with dep head. I know I didn't imagine this as I saw raised eyebrows from another of the women when he pushed past her.
When curious children came over he did the equivalent of LOUD parenting, complete with smug side glances at dep head. Whenever we were in the room of male teachers he would sidle up to the teacher, talk in a "man to man" manner and do horrid, ingratiating belly laughs at their comments...

What got me most though... just before the end of the tour, the dep head had to leave and left the kids to finish up. Our "tour leader" child asked us if we'd like to visit the nature area. All of us said yes apart from this bloody chap who said no, he'd be off now! (He was first candidate so had had interview - the tour was the last stage of the day for him, but not the rest of us.) And he just buggered off because there was no adult to impress!

I know I'm ranting because I don't like waiting, but spending a day in the company of someone so wholly irritating does not do much for my mood.

YANBU, but I'm guessing he won't get the job so forget it.

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 20/03/2012 20:39

Cheers BluddyMoFo - I have a slight inkling this one's gone my way actually! counting chicks emoticon

snowmummy I will forget it but needed to vent. Bloody idiot!

oohhh please come back and let us know how you do :)
[keeping fingers crossed emotion!]

workshy · 20/03/2012 20:48

he obviously doesn't realise that the children feed back to the Deputy head

idiot!

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2012 20:48

Bmf that first comment didn't come across quite as you intended, I don't think...

My theory is that one in every ten men is like this and it gets more pronounced the older they get :o

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 20/03/2012 20:49

Thanks for the good luck wishes! You probs missed my last thread but I made a right royal clanger on my application letter and am amazed they shortlisted me... will find out tomorrow.

Coconutty - your story WOULD give me hope, but my first school interviewed an almost identical tosser years ago and bloody hired him! He flirted in a vile, shameful way, making actually quite suggestive comments and some of the sillier women twittered around him like some wayward son. Bleurgh.

Ruthchan · 20/03/2012 20:50

I agree.
He sounds like an idiot, but he's unlikely to have impressed anyone at the school either, so he won't get the job.
I hope you made a better impression!

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2012 20:52

Oh I remember that thread - cut and shut letters? :o

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 20/03/2012 20:55

YES stealthpolarbear - horrific! Am eternally grateful it wasn't mentioned in interview...

Thanks Ruthchan, me too!

What if neither of you get the job and he turns up at your next interview too? Shock

That would be awful but funny so wishing you luck with today's.

redspottedfrog · 20/03/2012 21:03

There was a bloke like this when I had to do the group discussion part of my degree interview, he was a bloody nightmare! He didn't get in so that should give you hope!

lisad123 · 20/03/2012 21:06

Nh I think op will get the job but they will offer man a higher position and he will now be your manager typeGrin

GetOrfMoiiLand · 20/03/2012 21:08

Good luck gin.

My dd's school recently interviewed for the head, as part of the school council dd was involved in the interviews (she loved it). She said that there was also a very brash chap who patronised the kids, it didn't go unnoticed and this formed part of the students' feedback.

He didn't get the job - it went to a younger man who was not brash and seemed to really care about the school, dd said that the brash candidate didn't seem to give a monkeys about the ethos of the school and banged on about academy status and how he would change everything.

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 20/03/2012 21:11

I am going to accept the general suggestion that he will be seen through, as its much more comforting than Auntiestablishment's thought.. :(

Of all his twatty characteristics it was the matey, exclusive way he tried to chat to the male teachers. Bah!

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 20/03/2012 21:14

lisad123, please don't! Luckily I am a fair bt more experienced than him so this is not likely!

GetOrfMoiiLand (love it!) I'm really glad they obviously appreciated the school council's comments. I've been involved in the interview process at my school before and the school council interviews are utterly disregarded. It annoys me as kids often pick up on an interesting point of view adults might miss.

I used to work with a bloike liek this. Please, please, please tell me this awful behaviour gets condemned in the public sector?

In the private one he was promoted due to that elbowing, smug, rah rah rah behaviour (your line about the laughing hit me right in the stomach).

Good luck. You sound like a good teacher.

springchickennugget · 20/03/2012 21:17

*bloke like Blush

Auntiestablishment · 20/03/2012 21:17

Sorry, gin, put it out of your mind and find some more gin.

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 20/03/2012 21:28

Done and done!
Now just polishing off last bit of a bottle of wine and giggling at latest "poo particles" thread :) Will update...

I thought all teaching jobs were done on the day? Or is there a second round?

Back in my day all candidates were kept waiting in a room while the panel deliberated, and then the winner was called out, while the rest were given travel expenses forms.

This was because off you were offered and refuse, you didn't get your expenses, or so I was told.
