To feel like telling my friend that her dog does indeed smell?

I have a friend who is always going on very smugly about how lucky she is that her dog doesn't smell like other peoples' do. In fact her house has a very distinct "doggy" smell about it and if you stroke her dog (lovely as he is) your hand smells of dog.

She says that when he goes she'll neer replace him because she doubts she'd be as lucky to get another one like him that doesn't smell.

I know I won't tell her really but it makes me feel better having said it here.

Do you think I may have BO Kitty? Will get neighbour to sniff me too just to be sure.

MrsKittyFane · 21/03/2012 09:32

:D Sparkling!! Don't worry! I'm sure it isn't bad!
I just meant that people without dogs and cats can smell them in other's homes. I didn't mean that you would make everyone who steps through your door feel sick!

ajandjjmum · 21/03/2012 09:33

I have spent a small fortune on candles since we had our puppy - he does smell! We still love him though!

MrsKittyFane · 21/03/2012 09:33

I'm sure you smell lovely sparkling!!!
< feels guilty >

What Mrs kitty said

You can generally smell dog on a dog owners clothes, cos their house smells of dog.

Horse owners smell horsey.

And cats smell of cat.

(hate dog smell - I love dogs but could never have one, hate the dog smell too much, even clean dog smell. Love horse smell though. )

ChickensHaveNoLips · 21/03/2012 09:34

Animals smell. Fact. Our hamster smells like unwashed fanjo if she isn't cleaned out every 3 days exactly. Our dog smells like dog. I air the house out regularly, use reed diffusers etc and wash his bedding regularly. But if you sit next to him, yep, you're going to smell slightly batty spaniel. Clean dog smells are acceptable to me, but if it's a really horrendous honk there may be a health issue for the dog. Or it just needs a bath.

poutintrout · 21/03/2012 09:34

Tell her, but in a nice way. My family know that they are to tell me if my house smells too doggy. I would much rather they tell me and I can have a blitz rather than for visitors to think that my house smells like a zoo.

It is naive of her though to think that her dogs don't smell. All dogs smell to some degree.

MrsKittyFane · 21/03/2012 09:35

Dog not dig!

MrsKittyFane · 21/03/2012 09:36

sparkling don't forget to shampoo carpets!

FilterCoffee · 21/03/2012 09:42

Cats do smell. Yes, even healthy clean cats.

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2012 09:46

Noooo Filter. Sad I have ripped the carpets up just to be sure Kitty.

LST · 21/03/2012 09:48

Dogs smell. When we had a dog is smelt doggy. But now I have 3 cats they defiantly don't smell?? It's the litter tray that needs changing if a house smells catty surely?
Hmm

Sparklingbrook · 21/03/2012 09:50

Well they do apparently LST, it's just that our noses have become immune. Shock

WhispersOfWickedness · 21/03/2012 09:51

My mum's house doesn't smell of dog even though she has one. She has no central heating and draughty windows though, so it is a little, er, freezing fresh, so that probably makes a difference Grin

LST · 21/03/2012 09:53

I have my nose in my black cats fur right now and he does smell :o...

Of the pile of clean washing he's been lying on!

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 21/03/2012 09:53

I have 2 dogs and 1 cat. The cat doesnt smell but she does leave fur everywhere which I do my best to clean up. The floors and dog beds are washed regularly as I cant stand dog smell.

I think it is worse if you have carpets as the hair gets trapped in the carpet fibres.

I love dogs.

ChickensHaveNoLips · 21/03/2012 09:53

Cats do smell. It's a sort of dusty, dry smell. But can be quite sharp if there are a lot of cats and they don't go outside DH had a cat that's breath smelled like arse. It used to yawn in my face on purpose.

ChickensHaveNoLips · 21/03/2012 09:54

YY to the carpet issue. I have hard flooring everywhere the dog is allowed, and it helps to keep the smell down enormously.

MrsKittyFane · 21/03/2012 09:54

sparkling I'd get rid of the curtains too...
:)

laptopcomputer · 21/03/2012 09:55

Mine stink, they are the waterproof working types that someone else mentioned and they honk especially when wet.

Can't help thinking your friend hasn't got that much going on in her life if she gets that excited just about thinking that her dog doesn't smelll...

MrsKittyFane · 21/03/2012 09:57

LST NOOO! Not on clean washing !!!

MrsKittyFane · 21/03/2012 09:59

chickens are you sure ?! have you smelled your wooden floors recently?

LST · 21/03/2012 10:01
