To think that with Kate Middleton's education, she should be able to give a 3 minute speech without notes?

Given that new graduates at my organisation are expected to give 30 minute presentations without notes.

Erm no

IHeartKingThistle · 19/03/2012 16:03

Not quite the same thing, is it? Eyes of the world on her and all that. Leave her alone!

OldGreyWiffleTest · 19/03/2012 16:03

Well, she's not a graduate. She is who she is. Does it really matter in the great scheme of things?

wheredidiputit · 19/03/2012 16:03

Good for you.

Now can you do it with the worlds press shoving mike's and camera flashing at you, not mention the presses reaction should you make a mistake.

RosieBooBoo · 19/03/2012 16:04

Its not really the same is it? YABU.

RuleBritannia · 19/03/2012 16:04

It was her first official event by herself. Holding anything would help over nerves if there and, in time, notes might well be dispensed with. If she went to a school like mine, she would have had to give presentations to the class or even the school - by herself.

YouGoDuplo · 19/03/2012 16:04

Giver her a break, she must have been really nervous!

YonWhaleFish · 19/03/2012 16:05

Poop & Monkey Butt.

yabu.

YouGoDuplo · 19/03/2012 16:05

Giver??? I meant Give Blush

degroote78 · 19/03/2012 16:05

I'm a graduate and I'd need notes to speak in front of THE WORLD! I'd crumble on the first sentence.

knowitallstrikesagain · 19/03/2012 16:06

YABU.

Bet your graduates are not under quite the same sort of pressure and scrutiny.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/03/2012 16:07

In the three degrees/certificates/diplomas I have I must have missed the lecture on public speaking when the universe is watching Hmm

Maybe I was in the canteen that day

Bonsoir · 19/03/2012 16:07

She didn't do a spectacular first speech. But she did have the eyes of the world upon her, unlike the OP's graduates.

sue52 · 19/03/2012 16:07

It is her first real (sort of) job and 3 minutes is much longer than 30 seconds.

crashdoll · 19/03/2012 16:10

YABU. You can have the best education in the world and still feel like shitting yourself at the thought of being watched by a room full of people. It was worse for her because everyone was just waiting to have a snip at her and it wasn't just her employers and co-workers watching, it was thousands of people! And it was her first time, give her a break.

lostboysfallin · 19/03/2012 16:10

Yanu
And a bit mean

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 19/03/2012 16:12

As oft quoted in our house "if you can't say something nice ....say nothing".

GreenEyesAndHam · 19/03/2012 16:13

I don't know what her problem is, I mean why should she be nervous?

I mean it's not like there's swathes of people just dying to stick the knife in and take joyful pleasure in feeling superior to her, is it?

Oh wait...

Hammy02 · 19/03/2012 16:14

I like her - I was just a bit disappointed. But your comments are all fair enough. Skulks off.

ExitPursuedByABear · 19/03/2012 16:14

What Hobnobs said.

crashdoll · 19/03/2012 16:16

Everyone who thinks she did poorly should be forced to make a 3 minute speech to the world so we can scruntinise their performance.

Sparks1 · 19/03/2012 16:16

Why does your organisation expect graduates ( or anyone ) to give a 30 minute presentation without notes? Confused

All that proves is that they can be trained like a chimp.

Far better to have notes as a prompt and produce a concise presentation with none of the salient points being missed.

And as far as i'm aware there's no direct link between the education someone has and their ability to present well.

Megatron · 19/03/2012 16:19

I think she did really well. Especially considering she had millions of people just waiting and hoping she would slip up. I like her though, I think she's a nice lass.

YouChangeWithTheWeather · 19/03/2012 16:19

"All that proves is that they can be trained like a chimp"

Unlike Kate Middleton? Grin

I get the needing a prop thing, but surely she's been PR trained to within an inch of her life over the last few years?

Have you noticed how none of the younger royals (Queen's GC) never say er or erm, at all? It's been thrashed trained out of them.
