Aibu to not let the kids name our 4 new pet Chickens? Did do last time and was reasonably happy to end up with a Bubblegum and a Coconut (or Bubblenut and cocobum as I often struggled to let them out, sleepdiprived and baby brain-dead, lol) was planing on keeping all chickens with pretty little old lady names, polly, Edith ect, but now I have ordered 4 little chicks and think I lucked out last time am now faced with the possibility of having a humungasaur and a ripjaw via DS (4) and a solja boy and a eminiem (yes, prob have spelt that totally wrong, as I'm told daily, I'm really not with it!) via DD1 (11)
Now, should I tell them they already had names when I brought them or let them name them with in a theme eg, flower name, which DS will hate! Or look forward to my neighbours joy as they watch me running around the garden chasing a chicken calling 'come here Ripjaw!' Blush

I think you should discuss it.

They have to have realistic choices.

On the plus side I let DS name one of our cats when he was 4 and came up with Travis (from bob the builder)

My chickens are called Elvis (cockeral) Doris and June Grin

Nagoo · 17/03/2012 20:24

Do chickens even speak English?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 17/03/2012 20:37

Chickens are like people. You need to assess their personalities before you can give them names!

Aribura · 17/03/2012 20:57

If worst comes to worst, just make up nicknames like Mungo, RJ, Soy and Em (or just make up the least horrendous nickname for their chosen names that you can think of.) Or maybe my nicknames are even worse than the official ones... Grin

How about you let 2 of them have stupid names and you and DH (?) pick the others.

Bletchley · 17/03/2012 20:59

Could they be persuaded to name them less dreadfully more to your taste?

outmonday · 17/03/2012 21:07

Suggestions: Chicken tikka massala
Chicken korma
Kentucky Fried Chicken
Chicken Nuggets
Your DC will like these.

AWomanCalledHorse · 17/03/2012 21:11

Humungasaur is the best. name. ever. I may call next DC that.

Tell them because they're lady chickens they NEED lady names....Ripjaw isn't a patch on Tracey.

Onadietcolabreak · 17/03/2012 21:11

Tea, love your pets names, yep, might have to use this years easter eggs as bribery! Wink

Outmonday - DP would love them! Lol, like nugget though :) Awomancalledhorse - lol, Humungasur is great, I think it's wasted on a chook ( that's going to be on of my arguments I think!)

All chickens have old lady names.

Yabu, let the kids name them. Ignore the fact that i wouldn't let ds call his hamster Christmas and cat Fungas

cobwebthegrey · 17/03/2012 21:23

Our chickens don't have old lady names, and 3 of ours have male names. It's irony doncha know :o

3monkeys · 17/03/2012 21:27

My kittens were giventhe names of Liverpool players! sadly one of them left but the cat still bears his name!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/03/2012 21:32

If they are the DC pets then they should name them.

My DC chose the names for our guinea-pigs, not the names I would have chosen, but GPs answer to the rustle of a parsley bag rather than their name Grin

Though I'm itching to adopt my DS guinea-pig and re-name him Bart.

ScruffyTerrier · 17/03/2012 21:33

Give them a list of acceptables (around a theme perhaps) and let them pick.

ScruffyTerrier · 17/03/2012 21:35

...I've seen how it can go if you do it the other way. No way am I having pets called Snickers, Wiggles and Miley.

ComposHat · 17/03/2012 21:45

I want three greyhounds;

Lady lightfoot

Lord Greystoke

Sir Goodsir

I will wear a cape and sport a silver topped walking cane when out walking them.

DorothyGherkins · 17/03/2012 21:48

Why dont you get to name one each? You d come up with a lovely eclectic mix of names then, and everyone gets to be happy.

SaffronDormouse · 17/03/2012 21:48

I'd have called one of the kids Ripjaw if I'd thought of it.

What a corker!

Dee03 · 17/03/2012 21:59

My 3 hens were Edith, Phylis and Rihanna
Next doors dog killed Rihanna Sad
My youngest ds changed Edith to Amber last week!! Grin

Lilka · 17/03/2012 22:09

I let DS (7) and DD2 (16) name our Gerbils, within reason (nothing too long, nothing rude)

They came up with Chewbacca (chewy for short!), Obi-Wan and Annakin

I don't think it really matters what they're called in the end...Gerbils don't learn their own names after all! It is quite nice having a theme though.

slowestwildebeast · 18/03/2012 00:38

This made me :) the thought of you running after chickens with gangsta rap names.

What about naming them chicken related/pop stars, may I suggest the following;
Tupeck?
Rizzle Chicks?

Jnice · 18/03/2012 03:39

I think they are great names for chickens.

HillyWallaby · 18/03/2012 03:59

When I was PG with DS3 I asked DS1 what we thought we should call the baby if it was a boy. he said 'Wolf'. Hmm

mockingjay · 18/03/2012 05:04

I used to have chickens called Oscar, Missy and Peacock (yes, she was a chicken!). Let them call them anything they like, I remember my oddly named chickens very fondly Grin

Jnice · 18/03/2012 05:13

My DS2 named DS3 sugar. We didn't put it on the birth cert but it has stuck Smile
