Aibu to not let the kids name our 4 new pet Chickens? Did do last time and was reasonably happy to end up with a Bubblegum and a Coconut (or Bubblenut and cocobum as I often struggled to let them out, sleepdiprived and baby brain-dead, lol) was planing on keeping all chickens with pretty little old lady names, polly, Edith ect, but now I have ordered 4 little chicks and think I lucked out last time am now faced with the possibility of having a humungasaur and a ripjaw via DS (4) and a solja boy and a eminiem (yes, prob have spelt that totally wrong, as I'm told daily, I'm really not with it!) via DD1 (11)
Now, should I tell them they already had names when I brought them or let them name them with in a theme eg, flower name, which DS will hate! Or look forward to my neighbours joy as they watch me running around the garden chasing a chicken calling 'come here Ripjaw!' Blush

Can't they name one or two?

I had a hamster called FlobbyDeBoing

My friends cat is called Affron Hum - her ds2 named him.

And all the way through my 2pg my dh wanted to call ds Megatron!

Agree hens need good girlie names.

Our new puppy is to be named Minion.

I figure at least I can yell 'Minny!' across the park...

VivaLeBeaver · 18/03/2012 06:33

Dd named one of our chickens Loveheart Pompom. Dh is still recovering from the day he had to take it to the vet and the vet shouted out Loveheart Pompom Oursurname in the full waiting room.

PLEASE give the chickens the AMAZING names your kids have chosen. I can't imagine how you could do better. Soulja boy and Humungasaur! Grin

Laambkins · 18/03/2012 08:25

I think those names are brilliant for chickens. I'd stick with them Grin

Ripjaw the chicken -ha! Grin

FauxFox · 18/03/2012 08:29

'nostril' is the best DC bestowed chicken name i have ever heard. Amazing.

bejeezus · 18/03/2012 08:32

I concur! Better names for chickens cannot be found

Our cat has the grand title of Pippippoppyrosiepudding

lollipoppet · 18/03/2012 09:06

My mil has named one of her chickens my dd's name which I think is rude and just plain fucking weird.

I personally would let the kids choose, I like the novelty of a hen called ripjaw or nostril!

Having said that I would make clear the same they choose is the forever name and we won't be changing it every week!

PineCones · 18/03/2012 09:09

Lilka I live those names!!!

PineCones · 18/03/2012 09:10

Love.
Damn auto correct.
I would name my chickens that too! (that is if I had any) Grin

suburbandream · 18/03/2012 09:18

Can't they name one each? I do understand the pitfalls of children naming pets - growing up we had a cat called Petty, because DSis who was 3 at the time was allowed to name her. Since she was a pet, obviously she was named Petty!

My favourite made up name came from my neice who was about 2 1/2 when she named her Barbie doll "Garond" - surely the least Barbie-ish name ever Grin

Onadietcolabreak · 18/03/2012 13:06

BoysBoysBoys your DP must be on the same wavelength as DS, now dead goldfish was megaton Grin viva pmsl! Love the way vets use family surnames for the animals! Ripjaw Smith has a ring to it ;) lollipoppet your mil is very wierd! Nostril Grin why not Nostrils?!

So far I'd go with 3 from this thread:

Ripjaw
Loveheart Pompom and
nostril.

My DC's have come up with

Wigwam and
Wigglebottom,
but I think they're too run of the mill personally!

lollipoppet · 18/03/2012 15:15

If I had a chicken I'd call it Nigel

Whatmeworry · 18/03/2012 15:22

YABU - Yr Dc's chicken names are brlliant. SoljaBoy is ny fave.

Whatmeworry · 18/03/2012 15:23

Ripjaw Smith has a ring to it
