Just.

Odd.

No focal point.

My DF has put an offer in on a to die for house and was telling me all about it - it sounds amazing - when I asked about the fire, she said it hadn't got one.

Do I tell her? She will be the talk of the town, what will the vicar think? I may just have time to stop this folly in it's tracks.

It's a dealbrekaer isn't it?

Poor poor friend.

Sad

No fireplace here , would not want one either

Whobuilt · 15/03/2012 05:32

YANBU a deal breaker definitely, why haven't you called the police yet FGS Grin

My DH thought I was barmy when it was on my 'list' when house hunting, not so barmy when we had a power cut and it was -7 outside, all 4 of us sat round the fire, was like a scene out of 'the day after tomorrow Smile

Yep, was on our "must have" list too.

mrspepperpotty · 15/03/2012 06:45

Chaos, are you my DH?? If so, he's done a very convincing job of pretending not to be on MN....

Chopstheduck · 15/03/2012 06:46

Come and help yourself to mine! Mine is fecking huge, and I could have so much more space without it. It really isn't worth the space it takes up just to have a log fire 2/3 times a year!

IamtheZombie · 15/03/2012 07:03

Zombie lurves her big fireplace.

YANBU.

We moved into a new build and couldn't afford the extortionate price the builder wanted to charge for a fireplace. I fell pregnant straight away and when we looked at fireplaces all I saw was hard corners DS could hurt himself on! Now that DS is older the focus of the room is lots of plastic toys him!

Fireandashes · 15/03/2012 07:10

We live in a rented house with no fireplace. If it were ours I'd put in a wood burner, mainly because relying on gas central heating with no alternative means of heating in the event of a power cut etc makes me twitchy. However, it would mean moving the dog's bed as he sleeps where the hearth would be, which I suspect wouldn't go down well with Aged Labrador.

BodaciousTatas · 15/03/2012 07:17

I don't have a chimney so not sure where my fireplace would go.

I could put a nice surround and hearth around my storage heater Grin

We have a fireplace, but on a side wall.

So we have the telly straight on in the middle of the biggest wall.

Not at an angle in the corner of the room.

It´s much better.

A fireplace in the middle of the "TVwall" would put me off a house.
