to have a drink every day?

Well 6 out of 7.

Say a bottle of lager or a glass of wine?

I've decided to not drink this week until weekend but could murder a glass of wine (there is a bottle chilled in the fridge - left over from Saturday night :) )

Some friends (who drink every day) say it's their reward after a long day at work or with the kids, others save themselves until the weekend and get blotto.

I do drink more on a Friday and Saturday night but not so much that I'm p*ssed ... unless I go out Grin which is rare.

So - should I stay clear tonight and save myself until Friday? Or stop beating myself up and pour a glass?

no point saying peoples coping mechanisms are no good, without taking into account what theyre trying to cope with

I don't think it's unreasonable, I have a drink prob 5 out of 7 nights, one or two glasses of wine. Granted they are fashionable large glasses and not your big standard Paris goblet. I don't eat junk food and I go to the gym most days, I think a wee swallow on a regular basis prob much better than a blowout at the weekends.

You should,t drink every day. I can tell amongst my friends who does and who doesn,t it doesvravage your skin and eyes over time.and the older you get the worse it is. If you need it and can,t relax without it needs addressing.

After the previous thread about a bottle of wine being a lot in one night, I feel you'll probably get more flaming than support here.

I drink a bottle if wine every sat when not pg, it's the only time I drink.

I have a few drinks every day over Christmas and new year and by the 2nd jan I look and feel terrible. My skin is dry and blotchy and I feel I should eat just lettuce for a month to detox!

No it's not good for you but I'm sure you're aware of that! I would say it depends if you CRAVE a drink, and how you feel if you don't have one.

If it gets to the point where you can't relax without one or are irritable without one, mo would be to seek advice. My mum is alcoholic.

Do you think you need a drink every night? Or just want one?

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 13/03/2012 09:37

Meant to say- my my started off having a can or two a night to relax, she could afford it, didn't effect her in the morning etc.

But it's gradually built up and if she doesn't drink in an evening now she could fit as her body is used to the alcohol.

A break for a few days won't do any harm.

I drink everyday and YANBU. I enjoy a good glass[bottle] of Merlot with dinner.

Just be careful OP. It escalates and if you start to use it too much as are reward/stress buster you can even "make" up a bit of stress to reach out and glug.

It's good to read everyones points of view.

For what it's worth both me and DH drank cordial last night Grin

We both wanted a drink but said we'll try and stay alcohol free at least Sunday - Wednesday.

I don't think either of us have a problem, but we do usually have a glass of wine together to unwind.

I feel better today and the scales have been kind! I know it's probably mind over matter and the fact we didnt crack open a family bag of crisps with the wine Grin but I'm feeling quite smug.

Roll on Friday for Wine and crisps - which now seem more of a treat!
