to have a drink every day?

Well 6 out of 7.

Say a bottle of lager or a glass of wine?

I've decided to not drink this week until weekend but could murder a glass of wine (there is a bottle chilled in the fridge - left over from Saturday night :) )

Some friends (who drink every day) say it's their reward after a long day at work or with the kids, others save themselves until the weekend and get blotto.

I do drink more on a Friday and Saturday night but not so much that I'm p*ssed ... unless I go out Grin which is rare.

So - should I stay clear tonight and save myself until Friday? Or stop beating myself up and pour a glass?

It is interesting, this...

OP I used to be like you and then had kidney probs over the last 7-8 mos and pretty much gave up drinking entirely. I think I have had 3 glasses of wine since Boxing Day now that I am back on it.

I honestly feel so much better and don't think I would go back to my nightly glass. I get a lot more done in the evenings, sleep better, and the one glass never risks turning into a top-up and then a second and so forth..... It is also a lot cheaper!! I used to have a 'wine' column in our monthly budget Blush and now save about £40 a month, I reckon.

EasyToEatTiger · 12/03/2012 18:57

A nice glass of wine can be lovely at the end of the day. Frankly it's up to you. If you think YBU you probably are. If not, well... If you drink too much, you still don't know if you've got the ticket. So many people these days don't die an especially good death.

CrockoDuck · 12/03/2012 19:03

Honestly, I hate to sound like some boring old killjoy, but my mother died an alcoholic leaving 4 young children behind, so I've had to live with the effects of alcoholism all my life.

I KNOW you are not anything like at that stage, but if you are getting to a place where you are starting to feel like you "need" a drink, then please start to cut down.

southeastastra · 12/03/2012 19:07

there was a bit article in the daily mail yesterday about this, said it was a hot topic on mn :S

Gumby · 12/03/2012 19:11

yes I started a couple of glasses a night
now can easily have a bottle a night
am trying to cut down at the moment and boy is it hard

Kenobi · 12/03/2012 19:34

no, no, NO, Pagwatch you misunderstand me! just wondering if he was telling me what he wanted to hear.

My post might have made more sense if I had said that he was sitting there with a very empty bottle of wine in front of him when we talked... which he was.

ugh I hate typing!

Kenobi · 12/03/2012 19:35

Oh, I see you hate the typing/brain interface too Grin phew, glad we got that cleared up.

Hulababy · 12/03/2012 19:36

It's recommended to have two alcohol free nights a week.

shinecrazydiamond · 12/03/2012 19:37

Ha ha

this will be on Matthew Wright come the end of the week

Pagwatch · 12/03/2012 19:39
Grin

Oh thank goodness Kenobi. We are equally bumfuzzled. Which makes Hulababys post after amuse me slightly. It is as if we are proving her point.

Kenobi · 12/03/2012 19:40

ooh, I do hope so. Did you know that 'Matthew Wright' is an anagram for 'sanctimonious, idea-stealing prig'?

You can quote me, Matty. Wink

BearlyThere · 12/03/2012 19:42

It's a terrible habit to get into.
You must have several days off. If you can't I'd suggest you look at your relationship with alcohol.
It's not a reward. It's an addiction

shinecrazydiamond · 12/03/2012 19:42

The OP is written in a most hilarious way isn't it?

Kenobi · 12/03/2012 19:43

Yesh pagwatch sheez absaflirtly right.

You're all a nest a.. nest a.... VIPERS.

(I wish, I'm 40+1)

i probably have 2 or 3 glasses of wine an evening. I think i drink too much, but it does help the anxiety a bit

BearlyThere · 12/03/2012 19:50

DinahMoHum · 12/03/2012 19:51

EasyToEatTiger · 12/03/2012 19:55

southeastastra · 12/03/2012 19:56

\link{http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/you/article-2111027/Its-time-Mummys-bottle-now.html\look mn mentioned a few times in this article}

LumpyLatimer · 12/03/2012 19:56

I think it's very important to consider whether you need - or think you need - a drink every day.

I am more than capable of the odd binge, at parties or celebrations or whatnot, but I have never really 'needed' a drink. I would worry why someone would even think to have a drink every day, you know?

Those who drink moderately have a better life expectancy than teetotalers. All things in moderation.

RedFlagFlying · 12/03/2012 20:04

I think drinking every day cant be good, no matter what people say. I love a drink, but every day? No.
