Adknowledgement of presents from teacher

Kennyp · 09/03/2012 13:50

This is still getting kn my nerves and its from christmas!!! Dd gave all her teachers christmas presents.

Acknowledgement from all teachers apart from one. Dd said he never mentioned the present. I think rude git (teacher, not dd). This year he will not get anything at all (bet he is sobbing as i type) Everyone kisses this teachers arse, he is the deputy head teacher, but i think he is very rude.

Should i let it go???!?!?!! Am so tempted to make noises about said present (a very nice present. John lewis in the sale but still nice). Havent yet made any noises and wont but am ranting. I still think its rude. Pffffffffffffffffffffff.

Oh don't be so bloody daft!

lumpymash · 09/03/2012 13:53

Let. It. Go.

Dancergirl · 09/03/2012 13:54

Get a life

RuleBritannia · 09/03/2012 13:54

It could be that he didn't know from whom it was? If he took home lots of presents, the label might have come off a few. Hmmm yes. He could have just written to the label-writers and said 'thank you for yourt gift'.

That said, if he had twenty Joans in the school and had gifts from six of them, he wouldn 't know which Joans to thank, would he?

I do think that a thank you is the correct thing to do even if you don't like the gift.

workshy · 09/03/2012 13:54

how many presents do you think he gets -it'sunreasonable to expect an individal thanks and it's also unreasonable to buy the teachers anything other than a chocolate orange!

milkysmum · 09/03/2012 13:56

oh for goddness sake let it go

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 09/03/2012 13:56

What?????? Seriously???????

Christ, we give presents to the teachers to thank them for all the hard work they do with our DC's - do you honestly think that have time to write out thank you letters?

Basically, you got him a nice present and you want to be recognised for that! Just be normal and buy a candle or some chocolates and then maybe you wont feel so put out if he doesnt do a lap of honour in your favour!

Cherriesarelovely · 09/03/2012 13:57

KennyP it might cheer you up to hear that I am a teacher and I absolutely ALWAYS send a thank you card or note to every child/family that gives me a present. It is really, really rude not to. We all do it at my school. It also sets a bad example to the children if you don't. In DDs school her teachers would put a little note in her contact book saying "thanks for the wine!" or something like that which I thought was also a nice, quick way to do it.

luvviemum · 09/03/2012 13:57

You're short of something to worry about

stealthsquiggle · 09/03/2012 13:59

FGS let it go. I feel guilty about the beautiful Thank you letters which DC's teachers write - it's very sweet of them, but I feel like by giving them a present we have made more work for them, which was not the intention.

If you don't want to give him anything next year, then don't - but stewing about it is such a waste of time and energy...

Cherriesarelovely · 09/03/2012 13:59

rulebritannnia yes, this does mean that you have to be very careful to make sure that you keep labels and presents together and make a note of who gave you what, it's worth doing though. Parents often comment on how pleased their child was to receive a thank you note and to know that I enjoyed the present which they have often been really excited about giving.

bringbacksideburns · 09/03/2012 14:00

YABU and need to find something far more important to gripe about.

Pagwatch · 09/03/2012 14:01

I think yabu. You shouldn't give gifts in anticipation of thanks.
Of course people should say thank you. But life sometimes intervenes.
I would move on. It's march.

TimothyClaypoleLover · 09/03/2012 14:01

Some people do thank you notes, some don't. Its not the end of the world. How old is your DD to be giving ALL her teachers presents? If primary school age, surely just one teacher, and I have never heard of buying presents for all the different subject teachers at secondary school.

Voidka · 09/03/2012 14:03

Maybe the teacher said thank-you to your DD?

CupOfBrownJoy · 09/03/2012 14:03

Blush that I only said a verbal thanks for my christmas presents from my pupils this year and the parents clubbed together and spent over 150 quid !

Theas18 · 09/03/2012 14:05

Dh teaches. He does thank you letters every year (though I did this years as a generic "thank you for your kind gift" as he mislaid the who gave what list!)

Cherriesarelovely · 09/03/2012 14:08

That's the thing Theas18 you don't have to write some long essay, you can just write a little generic thank you note or even in a class newsletter you could make sure you say "thank you so much for all the lovely presents, I really appreciated them" although I do think that is a bit of a cop out!

Proudnscary · 09/03/2012 14:10

You are being a very silly billy

You don't give to receive or get thanks, young lady

TroublesomeEx · 09/03/2012 14:13
TroublesomeEx · 09/03/2012 14:14

Did the teacher put a Thanks for all the presents! type notice in the classroom window? That's what I've done in the past.

mojitomania · 09/03/2012 14:16

Grin Will go guilt trip my little sis who's a teacher that says thanks to the child in to sending out notes.

ripsishere · 09/03/2012 14:20

Now you come to mention it, DDs teacher and TA didn't come to my house and anoint either of us with any of the stuff in the gifts we got them. Selfish cows.
OP, get over yourself. If you've been thinking about this since Christmas, you've got too much time on your hands.
Will you be getting them all an easter egg?

CharminglyOdd · 09/03/2012 14:20

Normally I would say that a thank you card/note (at least) was mandatory but you gave the present as a thank you. Saying thank you for a thank you by means of more than a verbal acknowledgement of the gift is OTT. YABU.

AwkwardMary · 09/03/2012 14:20

Our teacher just sends out a joint thank you and told us she was sharing them all with her sisters and her Mum!
