like FB does, or better still, a positive/negative button like "The Student Room" does, so I can "comment" on a post with minimum effort?

Would save me loads of time :)

" I do mean a mumsnet poster rating button"

Ooooh yes. Then it can be just like a popularity competition. Hmm

No no and no again.

Pagwatch · 09/03/2012 15:52

It's getting too complicated. I just wanted the opportunity to throw the occasional bun. Never mind.

OhChristFENTON · 09/03/2012 15:53

It's like on one of those other forums where there's a count of how many have viewed and how many commented, - I think that's awful if someone's posted about something important and or upsetting and it shows 100 people viewed but only 20 could be bothered to say anything useful.

WorraLiberty · 09/03/2012 15:54

All a 'like' is, is a nod really.

Just like if you were sat in a pub cafe with your friends, you'd probably nod here and there without feeling the need to add anything else.

I don't really think it would have any kind of negative effect on the board if we had a like button.

And those who agree with people simply because they're 'friends', do that anyway...just verbally at the moment.

Proudnscary · 09/03/2012 15:55

Please please for the love of sweet baby Jesus don't turn this into a Royalty vs Frothers thread.

Or I might have to choke myself to death on MrGin's buns.

Sparklingbrook · 09/03/2012 15:57

But Mumsnet Talk is a Discussion forum. Confused Not press one button and naff off.

Pagwatch · 09/03/2012 15:58

But...but...that is compulsory at the moment Proudnscary. Did you not get the Shitstorm Memo?

WorraLiberty · 09/03/2012 15:59

It doesn't have to be one or the other though

Clicking 'like' on the odd post doesn't mean you can't comment too

But sometimes in a fast moving thread, you don't want to comment personally to everyone so clicking it would be an acknowledgement.

Proudnscary · 09/03/2012 16:00

Tore it up, Pagwatch

Pagwatch · 09/03/2012 16:05

Crazy mixed up kid.

Proudnscary · 09/03/2012 16:05

You know it

MrsArchieTheInventor · 09/03/2012 16:08

Yes, yes, yes! There should be a 'like' button as well as a 'dislike' button, maybe little red down arrows and green up arrows like on the Daily Mail website (please don't judge me for going on there, it's good for a laugh!) Blush

Ah now, the judgy-pants factor.... THAT's why I mentioned thestudentroom.... same green for like/red for dislike buttons idea as the DailyFail, but makes me sound dead clever Grin

I vote NO.

Avantia · 09/03/2012 17:55

NO .

It will lead to cringey arse licking for some posters - then people will start threads ' Which MNer has had the most likes ?' blah blah

Would rather the 'throw the bun' button - far more fun !

Sparklingbrook · 09/03/2012 18:07

I think we should have tailored recommendations of threads. Like Amazon.

'If you enjoyed the bun fight about P&C spaces you may like the fighty thread about Disabled Toilets'. Something like that? Grin

Gawd no.

whomovedmychocolate · 09/03/2012 18:43

There is a like button, it's called 'post message'. If we don't like your posts we ignore you. HTH Wink

runningforthebusinheels · 09/03/2012 19:23

No No NO.

When I joined MN I loved it's differences to other websites - no glittery tickers, no LOL and txtspk, no post count etc etc. I love the pages and pages of discussion pure and simple.

No like button, and definitely no bloody 'dislike' button - way to make someone feel like crap.

(Although it could be satisfying to 'dislike' some of the MRA trolls, it's still a NO from me.)
