To tell him to take this bloody monstrosity back?

Came home from a rubbish day at work to find that DH had bought a massive trampoline, which takes over half the garden and is just far too big. The kids are dead excited about it, so I am going to be the big bad mummy spoiling their fun, but I hate it. It is huge! He's already put it up - minus the netting - and it's been out in the rain for three nights now. AIBU to get him to take it back to the shop?

YABU

I AM SO JEALOUS

If my DP bought me a trampoline I'd marry him tomorrow

pinklaydee · 08/03/2012 10:14

Ha ha! Might be fun for the grown-ups when we are drunk I suppose. It's just he never checked with me first - has already promised the kids some gerbils without checking. It's just far too big for our garden!

I dont get the big outrage some peopel have about trampolines, no doubt this thread will soon descend into the previous ones about them, and someone will come along and start quoting accident statistics.

Mind you our trampoline doesnt really stand out in our back garden....not next to a climbing frame, playhut, swings and slide Grin

o4gs · 08/03/2012 10:19

You will realise that YABU as your children will love it sooo much.

Kennyp · 08/03/2012 10:21

A physio told me that a ton of teen girls who tramped/still tramp etc are getting increasingly incontinent as a result of trampolining.

I told my daughter who pooh poohed the idea and bounces regardless.

Perhaps incontinence reasons would work with your dh???
The children spend hours, literally, on the trampoline. Its worth its weight in gold/vanilla pods, etc

Crocodilio · 08/03/2012 10:24

Really, KennyP? I thought it would have the exact opposite effect, and be really good for toning core muscles including pelvic floor. It certainly uses those pf muscles, that being the reason that I can't go on ours with the children just yet (recently given birth)!

BoomOoYattaTaTa · 08/03/2012 10:28

I'm with duckdodgers on this. I long ago turned over the garden to the dc. When they're older I'll get a more adult themed garden but for now it's tampoline/swing/slide city out there.

Pink in your situation, yes dh should have nmentioned it to you first, but how can you take it away from dc now??Sad

Our trampoline has been up for a few years now and is one of the few 'toys' that's never lost it's appeal and is bounced on nearly every day.

BoomOoYattaTaTa · 08/03/2012 10:30

Lol at 'pooh pooh-ing' incontinenceGrin
Sorry. I get me coatBlush

Kennyp · 08/03/2012 10:31

Crocodillo. Physio said its when two people bounce and when you land the trampoline doesnt "give" as the other person is on it too, if you see what i mean?

Physio said only bounce alone. Dd pooh poohed that. Rightly!

lottiegb · 08/03/2012 10:40

The problem is his not consulting you first. Did you have other plans for the garden? Had you discussed them, or is it generally your domain and he should have understood this?

Presumably it can be folded down when you want the space for something else. If it's just on lawn and the size isn't posing a danger or upsetting overlooked neighbours, I mightn't be too fussed practically but, if it was shading out my precious borders and fruit plants I'd be really cross!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 08/03/2012 11:05

YABU - let them keep it, they will love it. Make sure they dont use it though till you have the netting up!

Have a go yourself, it's great fun...but work on your pelvic floor first. The first time I had a go on DS's I had a dreadful shock when I did a sit drop Shock

ripsishere · 08/03/2012 11:09

YWBVU to make the children lose their trampoline. You can have your half of the garden planted and maintained in a grown up way, let them have their half child like.
Your DH was being U to buy it without telling you though.
Do get the nets up ASAP and cross your fingers for a fine weekend.

"A physio told me that a ton of teen girls who tramped/still tramp etc are getting increasingly incontinent as a result of trampolining.

If your daughter pooh poohed on getting bad news then the incontinence may already be affecting her. Grin

Debsbear · 08/03/2012 11:23

Make the most of it. Many men wouldn't even consider what his kids might enjoy and they really will enjoy it! Trampolining is fantastic exercise but do take note of the safety issues, so insist that he puts the netting up befor ethe kids go on it and insist that they only ever bounce on it one at a time. Seriously, there are many accidents - some of them very serious, but most can be avoided by taking these precautions.

Proudnscary · 08/03/2012 11:32

Betty - I literally pissed all over my brother's trampoline!!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 08/03/2012 11:53

Proud - right there with you! Wink

Kayano · 08/03/2012 11:56

They are ugly and common and for poor peoples front gardens

disclaimer I'm taking the piss

They are ugly though and I hope the child doesn't want one lol

littlewish · 08/03/2012 11:57

Keep it, the kids will love it, it won't be there for long as they grow up soooo fast and then your garden will be all yours again.

oldraver · 08/03/2012 11:59

Ah trampolines are all round family fun especially if your not overlooked by neighbours

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 08/03/2012 12:01

Kayano - i never wanted one and poor DS had to ask for a long time before he got one (and he only got one because it was given to us) ....however, now he has one I am glad, good exercise, fresh air and all that!!

You wont get away with it, you know you wont! Wink
YOu may as well give in now :)

Kayano · 08/03/2012 12:03

The child is 2 weeks old so I'm hoping they will be 'so 2011 dah-ling' by the time she can bounce lol

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 08/03/2012 12:04

Aaaah, you may have some hope then, lol

CuttedUpPear · 08/03/2012 12:04

Of course it's been out in the rain for three nights, they live outside!
I think you should keep it, they are great fun and I too turned my garden over to ours for a few years.

One day your DCs won't be interested in physical exercise any more and will stay in their bedrooms with the curtains closed twiddling on screens...make the most of it while you can.

BTW I have a 3m trampoline for sale if anyone's interested...kids have grown out of playing outdoors now...Sad

startail · 08/03/2012 12:07

YABU
You're children will love it and it's the one thing that will get them outside regardless of age or time of year!

I say this despite DD2 managing to break her wrist in ours and DD1 constantly nicking my sandals and leaving them to get wet under the thing.

ripsishere · 08/03/2012 12:10

Where are you cuttedup? I might be interested. DD had an 8 foot one. It was too small for her in the beginning and is in Belgium.
