To tell him to take this bloody monstrosity back?

Came home from a rubbish day at work to find that DH had bought a massive trampoline, which takes over half the garden and is just far too big. The kids are dead excited about it, so I am going to be the big bad mummy spoiling their fun, but I hate it. It is huge! He's already put it up - minus the netting - and it's been out in the rain for three nights now. AIBU to get him to take it back to the shop?

Ours is so far cemented into our ground that even the recent hurricane that hit the west of Scotland didnt dislodge it. Its going nowhere, even when me and DH are old and grey no doubt Grin

pinklaydee · 08/03/2012 18:02

Thanks everyone! Visions of the kids weeping as bad mummy drags it back to B&Q.

Once you realise how quite it'll keep the kids you will forgive dh.

fedupofnamechanging · 08/03/2012 18:09

I think if it's been up in the garden for 3 days, you won't be able to take it back.

Does anyone know where you buy replacement safety netting?

MIL has bought DD a trampoline for her birthday in june. She will be 1 in june.

fabwoman · 08/03/2012 18:21

Don't be daft. He can't take it back now it has been out in the rain.

fabwoman · 08/03/2012 18:24

GWaP - I read that as DH bought MIL a trampoline and she will be 1....

BeckyBrandonNeeBloomwood · 08/03/2012 18:28

Do you seriously think any shop would take it back once it's been out in the rain? Hmm

GrittersWifeAndProud · 08/03/2012 18:30

fab :o

Should mention that it's an 8ft trampoline, for a 1 yo.

fabwoman · 08/03/2012 18:35

Shel'll grow into it. At 1 I suspect he will sit down on it and jig about rather than jump.

GavisconJunkie · 08/03/2012 19:49

Yes they are dangerous and yes they are immense fun.

My problem would be how much of my fecking garden it would take up and what an eyesore it would be, especially when all nice and rusty with yellow grass underneath.

YABU to take it back to the shop. YWNBU to totally bollock the inconsiderate wanker for getting it without talking to you.

complexnumber · 08/03/2012 19:56

Trampoline + Gerbils = How much fun do you want!

Rhubarbgarden · 08/03/2012 19:57

YANBU. It will ruin your lawn. Our trampoline is in our kitchen instead; I hate cooking and I love gardening.

complexnumber · 08/03/2012 20:02

So, Rhubardgarden, just pretend you had a kitchen, a trampoline, a garden... and some gerbils! Where would you keep them?

Tranquilidade · 08/03/2012 20:03

Ours was one of the best buys ever.

It was used as a trampoline, it was used for all sorts of bouncy, rowdy games with balls,it was draped with things to make a den under it, it was used for sunbathing on and much, much more!

He should have checked with you but, now it's there, just have fun.

Rhubarbgarden · 08/03/2012 20:14

Gerbils in the lounge, obviously.

lottielou39 · 08/03/2012 20:16

is it the big ten footer they have in Asda for £99? If so, this is the one we have. And my kids bloody love it!

complexnumber · 08/03/2012 20:19

Doh!

yeahbut, say the gerbils had relatives to stay?

Sidge · 08/03/2012 20:19

We love our trampoline.

Great physio for DD2 and in the summer the girls will spend ages on it.

It's also really handy for sunbathing on when you can't be arsed to get a lounger out

I insist on a net though, ours tore in the storms before Christmas and I need to get a new one from Ebay before they can go on it again.

fatherchewylouis · 08/03/2012 20:20

I can't trampoline due to 2 children and failure to do my pelvic floors adequately.

We have that Asda one too, but we have quite a large garden so it leaves plenty of space.

Our view is the more space taken up with children play equipment = less lawn to mow.

duckdodgers · 08/03/2012 20:24

karmabeliever we bought a replacement enclosure off Ebay when our original one gave up the ghost.

AllShiney · 08/03/2012 20:25

I was hoping he'd got a giant metal chicken but a trampoline sounds just as much fun!

You can have your boring garden back when the kids have grown OP!

But I might have been a bit cross about not being consulted too.

Rhubarbgarden · 08/03/2012 20:47

Bathroom cabinet for overflow gerbils.

SarahJessicaFarter · 08/03/2012 20:52

YABU. But so will your DH when he has to move it alone to mow the lawn. Revenge is a dish best served cold!
